Can't speak to that (all my stuff's at 192kbps .mp3), though I do know there is a plug-in for the mac version. I can't imagine it'd be too long before it's available for windows. I would recommend trying it again once it is. It's that good.

Sorry, but I just don't see what it gains me that I don't get with WinAmp5. If I had an iPod, I might reconsider, but I already have all my CDs ripped to Q1 Vorbis for use on my T|T and at work.

Main thing is sound quality. WinAmp3 didn't sound as good as included player that came with my sound card. iTunes does. I can't imagine much as changed with newer versions of WinAmp. I could easily be incorrect.

Another thing to consider is where you tweak your balance/etc. I do so with the sound card utility, which is good because iTunes' options are very limited. If you use WinAmp's equalizer, you may well be better off sticking with what you've got.

<added>As an aside, my 2nd attempt at modding my video card (using the Zalman heatsink) went much better. There is a perceptable difference between the top sink and the bottom, leading me to believe I could've done something better somewhere along the line, but it runs as well as it did previously. I don't overclock my stuff, so I don't know as it performs better or not. My system is as quiet as I can get it now.

That's all I care about.

Well, there's your problem. Winamp3 sucked. I removed it faster than I removed iTunes. I used Winamp2.91 until I tried Winamp5 (which is built on Winamp2.x's foundation, but supports some of the visual candy of Winamp3, hence the 5 - it took the 'good' stuff of 2 and 3).

Well, considering that Nullsoft abandoned all Winamp3 development and even came out with 2.x versions after that, I'd say that is a possibility.

I don't see any need to tweak. My speaker placement is already optimized for my listening position when I'm at my computer.

While I realize that people generally don't use them that way, I see equalizer settings as only being there to make up for flaws in the acoustics of a room/speaker set-up. IOW, if placing your speakers in X location causes Y frequency range to drop or be reflected more prominently, then you tweak it with EQ. Otherwise, you just leave it flat.

I can see that. I set mine once out of the gate and haven't touched them since, regardless of what music/sounds are playing.

I have to say, I've been replacing my 128kbps .mp3's with 128kbps .m4p's through iTunes and the difference is remarkable. Not quite 192 .mp3, but very few flaws nonetheless.

Dear God, I'm becoming the guy who screams 'Free Bird!' at Skynard concerts. aren't I?

I see equalizer settings to make up for flaws in the listeners acoustic receptors (ears)..
We all don't hear exactly the same way.. some people hear different ranges better than others and vice versa..

If you're the only audience, that's a perfectly valid take on it. After all, making up for the shortcomings of a room/speaker setup only matters in the context of the audience. That being said, I like the end result of EQ twiddling (if it's being done) to be a flat, even response. That way I'm hearing the music as it was recorded (or at least as it was mastered). But then I've not historically had any troubles with hearing. YMMV.
