Replacement

I have a blue deluxe which I have had since Nov '99. Well I have had 'a' blue deluxe since 99. I've gone though about 3 or 4 due to malfunctions. So come January, when there will be no more Dx's what will happen if it dies? Will I get an upgrade or will I be left in the lurch. What are your thoughts? Does anyone know for sure?

Don't what to tell you. I have had my blue VDx since 11/99 and it has worked great.

Question

Is the VDx going to be discontinued as of January? If so, you have a very good question and a legitimate concern. I purchased the additional warranty/screen replacement for my VDx. If they are discontinued, how can I get a replacement? I think I will email Handspring to see what they say. If I get a response I will post it.

Smile Trade-In

Trade your VDX in to jjpepple.com!
I got $90 for my VDX purchased in Jan 2000.
They have excellent service and response. I think they will even re-imburse for shipping now.

doverbay: thanks for the link. I just requested a trade-in quote for my VDx. I will let you know what they offer. I would rather avoid eBay, so hopefully they will make a reasonable offer. I ordered an Edge this morning, so the timing was great.

Oh, and by the way, I talked to Handspring customer support and they said there is no plan at this time to discontinue the VDx in January (or any time thereafter).

Okay, no fair. They only offered me $80 - and that included my PDA Panache stylus and Handspring custom leather case. Plus, I purchased my VDx six months ago. I didn't expect a huge offer, but $100 would have been nice. I would have traded it in for that.

Not to say that they lied to you, but it seems rather stupid to continue to have two products so simmilar at a $30 difference. I don't know of a single sound minded person who would keep his $30 for something twice as slow, and with an old OS

It's okay, you can say they probably lied to me because they probably did. I ordered an Edge this morning, so my VDx is history. The price drop to $299 plus the $40 off coupon sealed the deal.

VDX Supplies

I am sure that Handspring will keep a fair supply of refurb Deluxe's for just this purpose. They probably have a few hundred or so reserved for warranty replacement.
It would be great if they dropped the VDX down to $129.00 or $119.00. It would be a great competitor to the M100.

Ever consider that they're going to reserve the Deluxe for sale in places where people aren't necessarily of sound (or at least informed) mind? I saw Deluxes for sale in Sam Goody alongside Palm M100s the other day. That's probably where Deluxe production is headed. The record stores and Wal-marts of the world.
