Ack!

I've been so paranoid about scratching the screen of my new Visor. So what do I do tonight? Scratch the screen while replacing a Writeright!

It's a miniscule scratch in the top-right of the screen, where you'd expect to have to pick away at a screen protector to get it off...only I picked away with a utensil that was a little too sharp!

Ironic, eh?

After a half-hour of buffing, the scratch stayed. However, I discovered that after finishing swearing and actually putting a new Writeright back on, the scratch isn't visible. By reducing glare, the Writeright actually masked the scratch.

Now I just need a few days to come to grips with my first scratch. It took two weeks to get over the first time I dropped my motorcycle, and only a week after finding the first scratch in my new car...so I should be over this by Monday.

Learn from this, eh?

I'm new to WriteRights as well. I've heard so much discussion about how difficult WriteRights are to apply (I found it easier than expected), but no one has warned about the difficulty of removing them.

I'd really like to hear some tips on the best way to remove those tricky little devils. How do you grab those nearly inaccessible corners? Do I really need to grow long fingernails?

Just use your stylus and lift up from the corner. I don"t use the stylus that came with my visor though....that one might scratch your screen

what Ive been doing is putting tape up in the corners of the plastic, sticky side to sticky side.

after trimming it down, whenever you need to remove the writeright, just use some scotch tape to pull "up" the non-sticky corner and remove...

Someone here said he used overhead projector slides to protect the screen. Has anyone else used them? Seems to be a cheap and effective solution.

I used overhead transparency sheet to make homemade protectors. Cut them to 7cm wide by 8.1 cm high, and insert the left and right sides under the edges of the case. Some people use laser printable transparency sheets. If you use them, be sure to insert with the matt side upwards.

Pros:<OL TYPE=1>

<LI> They have a lot of glare, screen hard to read
<LI> They get scratched easily, and have to be replaced

I have since moved to sheet vinyl. You can get a piece one foot wide by one yard long for under $2 at most fabric stores. Cut this to 6cm by 8.1 cm

<LI> Glare is reduced over that of the naked screen
<LI> Very scratch resistant. In about two weeks of use, I've only noticed a scuffed spot covering the graffiti area.

i ordered the PDA surival kit and when i got it i looked at the writerights and none of them are for the visor...so wich ones do i use. what size do i need to cut them..if they are too big.
any help would be appericated

I got the WriteRights for the Palm and they fit fine. The screen is the same size as far as I can tell. They are tricky to apply, though. I gummed up the first one with some fingerprints, bubbles and a piece of dirt. But the second one went on fine. The difference is amazing! The feel is 100% better, and no worries about scratching

Transparancy film does scratch easily and adds glare. I'm now cutting screen protectors from clear vinyl sheet protectors (3.3 mils) and they work great. Easy to cut and install, reduced glare and scratch resistant.

The ones I got are for Palm III, V, and IBM Workpad. They are an exact fit from top to bottom with maybe 1/16 of an inch on either side (if that).

Doug, I'm using "Screen Plus" PDA screen protective layer for my Visor in Hong Kong & it works well. It just costs me HK$35.00 (US$4.50) & it is completely transparent. The website of this product was written in Chinese but may be you can contact them by Email. The model No. for Visor is SPG201.

Cool. Now that's more like it!. ConceptKitchen charges US$28 plus shipping for 12. Sheesh. Outpost is more reasonable at $20 with free US shipping.

How many do you get per package for the HK ones? How easy are they to remove? If it's what I want I may get several packs shipped.

Could the gaps on the sides be meant for fingernail removal?

When I first read your post, I though you were suggesting the gaps were to remove your fingernails. Actually, I don't believe that these gaps are present when the WriteRight is installed on a Palm III. Any Palm III owners with WriteRights out there to confirm?

The more likely scenario is that the Visor's screen is slightly wider than a III or WinCE, accounting for the gaps when installed on a Visor; but like you said, they do work well for getting the tip of your stylus or fingernail under it for removal. I wouldn't want it any other way.

BTW, the WriteRights for the WinCE and Palm III are the same ones.

Eug, US$4.50/sheet, single sheet per pad. Gap size:top+bottom=2mm, left+right=1.5mm. I didn't try to remove the layer yet but I think it is not very difficult to remove it.You can find the size from the seller's webpage:

This is my first post. I'm the proud owner of a Visor Deluxe, not available yet in Canada. I got it through a friend in NY.

My question is, is outpost.com a reliable vendor for writeright? What's the size needed for the Visor, IIIx? TIA

Howdy BF. I'm from Winnipeg. The best place in Canada I've found for Writerights is a locally-owned national company, Kortex. They also have a very, very good e-commerce site (www.kortexonline.com). I'd suggest getting them from here as they're a good $11 cheaper than Widget, the site I ordered my first batch from.

In response to Eug regarding the "Screen Plus G2" Protector from HK, they are absolutely the best thing for my PalmProf and GVDx. I had the fortune of visiting the city last week and was told by a friend there that they were starting to appear in retail stores. Being skeptical, I ordered a pack of 12 WriteRights from buy.com ($20 off as a first time buyer so I bascially pay for shipping only).

I then went to HK with my PalmProf (didnn't want to take my GVDx since I really can't register it with picky Canada customs w/o the GVDx having a serial number on it), bought one and put it on right away (I had previously had a WriteRight on it). You will not believe the difference I notice. The screen was bascially 100% clearer and this protector does not gobble up dust like the WriteRights.

I am beginning to feel like I work for the company but I don't In fact, the next day, I went back and bought a dozen! The great thing about HK was that at the labelled retail price of $25.00 HKD (Hongkongman, goto the 2nd floor store for a store selling it cheaper!), is that you can always bargain! I got a great deal for getting a dozen.

After getting home I regretted not getting some for my sister's new Palm Vx (They have a different size for Palm V's). I went back, bought another dozen and got a even better price!

I am not sure what's the best way of getting them for those of you with no friends/relatives in HK. Right now I do have about 18 of these sitting at home and judging from my "vigorous" use of the protector of my Palm Prof, especially in the harsh dusty weather in HK, I am thinking each will last me at least 3 months. Applying these things is so easy you'll laugh at why you ever bothered with WriteRights. Speaking as someone who has used various types of Transparencies, Commercial/Homemade Protectors, I dare say these are the best I have ever used, despite the high cost.

If there is anyone in Canada wanting to get one off me, give me a email! I can always do some trading for a nice premium HS stylus
