Arkon PDA Car Cradle

Just a friendly update to the community about the Arkon Univesal PDA Vent Mount Kit I purchased from Arkon for $39.95 recently. I purchased the mount because it specifically said on the Arkon Web site that it had been modified to hold the VisorPhone/VisorDeluxe combo. I received the mount and sure enough, it does hold my Visor while the VisorPhone module is installed. However, Arkon failed to mention that you CANNOT use the headset with the VisorPhone while it is in the mount. This makes NO sense! Yes, I realize some of you here will scream that I should not be talking on the phone while driving. But in lil' Rhody, it is still legal to do so, and I would consider it safer for me to use a headset then to have to wrestle with this mount to retreve my phone and hold it if a call comes in while I am on the road. Same goes for the danger of swerving to the side of the highway/street. I am returning the device since it failed in its purpose. I wouldn't use my Visor to log appointments while driving (that's dangerous), and I can't use the VisorPhone in the mount so what is the point in having it.

Take a Dremel tool and notch out where the headphone wire should go.
I bought one and the spring is so strong, if you have a stylus that
sticks up just a tad, it breaks the silo out at the top.

Actually, here is an update. I contacted Arkon via phone and asked about their return policy (it is not posted on ther Web site or documentation). The customer service rep told me they were aware of the problem with the VisorPhone headset jack. He said they have not addressed the issue in a new model, yet. However, he tell me that I could remove the arm on the side of the VisorPhone where the jack is inserted. He said that the Visor should remain just as stable. He will also be sending out (at no charge) some longer legs for the mount that should help offset the angle of the VisorPhone/Visor combo in the holder because of the large square battery at the back of the VisorPhone. I was very satisfied with these suggestions and I plan on doing my best to make the Arkon mount work. I will update.

Akron & Visorphone mount

Hi,

Any update on your Visorphone mount saga? Also, do you recommend the Akron vent-style mount - does it work well?

thanks

AndyHN

I bought a cupholder mount from SMC and it works much better
than the Arkon. The grips are at the side and is well padded. I
ended up cutting out some of the padding as it was too much to
allow the Prism to set in with the grips totally open. Check them
out at http://www.smc-corp.com and they also have vent mounts.

Cool

Hi,

I picked up this unit from Target. It's shown here installed in my Ford Explorer. It mounts to the cup holder in your car. I had to do a little tweaking put it works fine with my visorphone mounted on it. I think I bought it for about $6.99. I'll post the make and model as soon as I can find the box it came in.......

Thanks,
"J"
