Anyone else around here a bit skeptical of Handspring's quickness with Windows2000?

With how slow they've been with everything else I'm guessing "in March" means "we'll change the release to April at the end of March."

And they don't even have any beta drivers yet? At least not any they're willing to give us.

I'm with you there.

HS are really going to have to work hard to regain my confidence. If we get Win2k drivers on March the 1st that will help a bit.

(The beta drivers I was promised at the end of Jan would also help a bit too.)

Thumbs down

While I'm dissappointed that the W2K drivers won't be out until march, I'm not surprised. There are many companies that promised to have their drivers released by the release date of the W2K and many of them aren't released yet. But there are two differences, Handspring finally did come out and gives us a later date. Other companies have at least temporary of beta release drivers out. This is one case where I know handspring isn't alone on, but I agree that they should have done a better job.

But what really did we all expect after there wonderful product launch? (dripping with sarcasm)

What bothers me is that Win2k has been out in usable fashion for months now. I've been using it for quite some time with no problems except for no support my Visor's USB cradle. I have to take it to work and use it with my Win 98 machine.

While I applaud Handspring for giving us a release date for updated drivers, I also have to chastise them for waiting so long to get their act together. People have been using Win2k for months and they decide to wait for the "official" launch date before even announcing that they're working on drivers.

I am really confused by these posts. I have a Visor Deluxe. I have Windows 2000 office on my PC laptop. The USB cradle has worked flawlessly and is fast. I also use the cradle on my iMac DV SE. It is also flawless.

What am I missing here?

Cool

You sure your not confusing Office 2000 with Windows 2000? I saw you mention "Windows 2000 office" in your post. The USB drives that come with the Visor do not work properly in Windows 2000 and require an update by Handspring. Hope this clears things up.

later,
Peter

Cool

I received the following email message from a certain Ed Colligan. (Perhaps you've heard of him?)

"I do believe we currently have support for Windows 2000 in test and an update will be posted to our web site imminently."

And, in response to my comment that they really should have someone posting something to VisorCentral:

"We are very stretched for resources right now and feel it is a better use of our time to fix the existing problems with our logistics and service issues. We have made great strides in both areas. We will be putting more resources toward responding to the chat boards as we build our customer support teams. Please bear with us."

Just thought I'd pass it on. I'd hope that in the near future, there would be someone from HandSpring posting information here, so that we could always get information direct from the horse's mouth. That would certainly ease the rumor-mongering and misinformation, and, at least for me, ease the frustration on some of these issues. I would rather have bad news than no news at all - I'd rather know for sure what's going on.
