The battery I was sent was a prototype, so I am still confident that they will get whatever problem mine had resolved before they begin selling them to the public.

Let's hope so Eric! I just placed an order for one. They are backordered, with the expected ship date of November 25.

My battery has so far not shown any signs of weakening, but all indications are that it sat on the shelf for at least a year, so I am going to strike while the iron is hot. Sometimes one manufacturing run is all a supplier will do if the demand is not great. And at $39 (plus $5 shipping per order under $100) I am not waiting to find out, especially when they are claiming it has 1500 mAh capacity. That is over 50% more than a new OEM battery.

Here is the URL to see the offer or place an order:

The Prism is dead, long live the Prism!

Thanks for that info,

I just spoke with the guy from getadeal.com about the new battery he sent not charging, he said they suspect there might be two different types of Prism batteries, anyhow he is sending me a new one which he says is a design that has been tested on Prisms and is ready for sale ( I guess the battery he sent me was still in development and not fully tested). $39.00 is a great deal!

Smile I ordered one too!!

I just ordered one yesterday and I got an email that tells me it has shipped!! Maybe they are shipping and the web site is out of date.

I Hope it works.

By the way, does the Prism have a capacitor like the old AAA powered Visors or will I have to restore my data from a backup module?

you will have to back-up and then restore your Prism. After disconecting my battery, then re-connecting it, my prism went through the entire "welcome" procedure...asking me for my location, date, time,etc..
...all data was wiped from the Prism (however I did back everything up, so it was easy to go back to the previous state my Prism was in before dis-connecting my battery)!
good luck w/ your new battery, let me know how it works for you!!

Jo-el (Superman's cousin?)

Don't be confused! I got the same e-mail. I think that is just standard procedure so that they get paid. I went back to the website and got a pop-up box that said (briefly, before it disappeared on its own):

"Not in stock! You are welcome to order and have it shipped Nov. 25th"

Just sit tight and think good thoughts. "All good things come to he who waits."

Now, if only there was a 16 MB memory upgrade kit that was just as easy and just as affordable! (Yes, I know there is a guy who will do it for 50 bucks, but then I still have to send off my beloved Prism to some guy I never heard of before. That is hard to do!

Thumbs up So Far So GOOD!!

No Problem Swapping the battery. It started at the welcome screen and I set the digitizer, date, and time. The meter shows about 1/4 charge. On the cradle the green light blinks normally. I'll give it the 3 hours and then restore from my back-up module.

My old battery was manufactured on 8/31/2000 so it is more than 2 years old. I guess that's why it didn't seem to be holding a charge for long.

This is looking pretty good so far. The price was not bad at $39 plus shipping ($5.00).

More to come in a few hours.

Battery Log is exactly what you need. It logs time since last charge, as well as ON time (which is what you are really after). It also tries to calculate time to reach 0%.

I guess you have the touch Joel! I kept checking the UPS tracking number they gave me when I ordered on the 13th, and sure enough, it just shipped yesterday (25th) just like the website said it would!

How did you get yours a week early!

<just kidding>

Thumbs up Much Improved Battery Life

Well, I've been using my Prism with the new battery for about 2 weeks now and it seems great!! I keep brightness up all the way now and use my VPhone constantly. I never seem to get below 3.8v even with this heavy usage. I think the capacity of the replacement battery is greater than the original.

Looks like my Prism just got another life!! If only the OS could take more than the 16mb I have on the device.

Could be the chip, I am not really sure. Anyone out there know?

If so, can Palm OS5 devices access more RAM? How much?

You were incorrect. They can address up to 16MB.

Doesn't that mean the same thing? "can't address > 16MB" means "can address < or = 16 MB".

Yes that is the site that I purchased my battery from. Great service and fast shipping. I also bought a spare battery for my Nikon digital camera from them.

New batteries - a word of caution

I have also purchased the battery. The instructions were correct except for one thing: my old battery could not be moved as freely as implied in the Step 4 - it was glued to the Prism back cover. I had to cut the shrink-wrap of the old battery; this allowed me to remove the battery. After that, getting the glued shrink-wrap out - piece by piece - was easy.

I have used my Prism with the new battery for four days so far. It does work great. I am happy with the added life to my organizer. By the way, the old battery was dated 10-20-00. No wonder it was showing signs of aging.
