Thumbs up

I just got off the phone with Handspring and confirmed, before ordering my new Prism, that the Prism WOULD indeed work with my Stowaway.

I repeat, the Prism IS compatible with the Stowaway.

The reason a new cradle is need is that the slightly different form factor of the Prism doesn't allow it to sit down properly in the old cradle, but hotsync cables and the Stowaway will work fine!

I hope this will help some in their decision. (I have read contradictions to this in other threads, but my info comes from Handspring themselves...yeah, a phone rep can screw up, but the girl I asked did confirm this with others in her area and she said it is compatible.)

Exclamation Power Pin(s)

Tyler,

I would check with Targus before jumping for joy on compatiblity. I believe the pin configuration will be different to handle the charging of the lithium battery. I hope I'm wrong on this but....historically Customer Service people are not the most accurate regarding technical information.

If I'm not mistaken, Palm IIIc use a different cradle for this reason as well.

The current cradle has the provision for the charging pin, it's just not implemented. As for the Prism, I think it does use the same physical docking connector but a different cradle because the case is different from that of the Deluxe. If this is the case, the Stowaway should work. Now, if Handspring went and changed the docking connector, that's a different story...

Arrow

I'm pretty sure the pin config is the same as ToolkiT says. I will hopefully be getting the Prism in today and that will be one of the first things I check.

If it's a different pinout then whoever developed the stowaway can just right a different driver. Right?

As I was told by the Handspring sales rep (and certainly error is a possibility), the pinout is identical on the Prism. In fact I ordered two hotsync cables with the prism for my office and secretary's PC's. These are the same hotsync cables that they previously made. (I already have one and they said it would still work fine, that in fact they were selling me the same thing.)

I also recall in something I read in the past (long before hints of the Prism) that the current pinout HAS a pin for charging that isn't implimented, which is how some people are able to hack their current cradle/Visor's to recharge NiMH's.

All debate will be settled in the next week or so when the Prisms start arriving.

James,

Thank you for your inquiry about our award winning keyboard. The Targus
Stowaway keyboard for the Handspring Visor is 100% compatible with the Visor
Prism and the Visor Platinum as well as with the Visor and Visor Deluxe.

It works

Tested - Stowaway keyboard with Prism - IT WORKS!

I received my Prism this morning and one of the first things I did was test the keyboard. No problems - totally transparent.

Have fun.

Red face Problems with Stowaway and IR and Prism

I was always able to beam stuff to my pager
using beamlink and the stowaway.
Now I have to disconnect the prism from the keyboard
before I can beam stuff.
Anyone seen something similar?
