The site seems to have dissapeared except for a construction page. Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks.

I guess I am confused between the long adapter and the flush one. Other than the fact that one lets the CF card stick out.

That's pretty much the only difference. Functionally, both adapters are identical.

Why would you want one vs. the other? Well, if you want to leave your CF card in the Visor all the time, then the "flush" solution may be a better option. If you want to be able to pop the card in only when you need it (in the interest of maximizing battery life) or if you want to easily switch from one CF card to another, then the adapter that leaves a bit of the CF card sticking out will make that a bit easier.

That's interesting. Does that mean the CF card drains the batteries even when the CF memory is not being accessed? Pardon my ignorance of things electrical, but what are the numbers on this?

Thanks.

I leave my Matchbookdrive in all the time and have not noticed any impact on battery life (Kingston 64mb). It must have some impact, but it seems very low. However, there have been some recent reports of Butterfly CF cards that seriously impact battery life (10% faster drain).

The answer is yes, but as Oliver mentioned, how much is totally dependent on the CF card. Test results have shown that certain SanDisk cards will decrease power off battery life by as little as 0.5% while certain Buterfly CF cards can decrease power off battery life by as much as 10%. When the Visor is "on" the power used by the CF card in its "stand-by" state is insignificant compared to the overall power drain.

What this means is that if your normal power-off battery life is 30 days (for example), keeping a CF card in all the time could reduce that by as much as 3 days for a power hungry CF card or as little as 3.6 hours for a good card. Probably not a big concern either way for most users, but if your Visor sits idle most of the time, the difference could add up to one set of AAA batteries a year.

I have a butterfly media 32mb CF card (in my VPL), a 10% decrease in battery life is an incredible underestimate. I leave it out. Leaving the card in amounts to me changing my rechargables every other day. Not so convenient. If I leave it out, pop it in only when necessary, I get a week or more. I haven't tried a SanDisk, but if they consume power at a fraction of the Butterfly's rate, go with them. I'll just stick to the in and out method (annoying though as much as it sounds fun).

I've got a SanDisk 32, and I've noticed that the VDX drains my rechargeable NiMH a little faster when the battery level dips below 45%, but there is virtually no impact above that. It may just be the VDX reading the batteries wrong (as a result of it being set to NiCD), but I'm guessing that the nature of the batteries just makes the slight drain more apparent as they near their waning days.

Red face

I've noticed minimal drain of battery power...

I have a quick question...since Dave is on this thread.

I just recently upgraded from the Platinum to the Prism. and i used to use a Lexar 48mb card and it works just fine...Now when i plug in the drive with the lexar disk inserted, it tells me that i need to insert the card or check the connection.....and i try my Nikon and Kodak cards, they both work like a charm(in the prism)!!! What could be causeing this? does the platinum and Prism have different "something(s)" that is making one more picky than the other???

(i know on the compatability list on www.matchbookdrive.com says that it doensn't work, but in my case..it does )

thanks for any input!
