I am trying to setup the Palm desktop software to synchronize mail with my Outlook 97. When I use mail setup the Palm desktop software hangs and the mail setup is never completed properly and I am unable to synchronize my mail between Outlook 97 and my visor. The mail setup gives me the option to select Microsoft Outlook so I am assuming that this operation is valid. Unless Microsoft Outlook 97 is not supported, but I haven't found any indication up to this point that Outlook 97 is not supported. My Outlook mail is set up to handle internet mail and is not using an exchange server. Thanks.

Make sure your Hotsync mgr has the mail set to "synchronize the files". To check what it's set at, click the hotsync icon, select "custom" from the popup list. Mail should be set to "synchronize the files". If it's set to "do nothing", then highlight it and change it,then click "done".
I hope this does it...

I have verified that the Hotsync manager is set to synchronize mail. My problem still exists. The problem is in the initialization when using the mail setup option. The Hotsync application hangs and never completes. I have contacted Handspring support but they tell me to use Outlook express. I have not found any documentation that states that Outlook 97 is not supported. If anyone has any other suggestions or if someone is using Outlook 97 to synchronize mail your input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem and finally got to talk to the Handspring Outlook product specialist today. Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and double-click on Internet (or Internet Options in Win2k). Click on the Programs tab and check your mail setting. If you're using Outlook, it needs to be set to Outlook, not Outlook Express (as was the case for me). Once you've changed the setting, click OK and then try your HotSync mail setup again. This change made mine work correctly.

Have you tried it when connected to the network? Mine won't sync the mail unless I am on my corporate network. It is apparantly syncing with the server, not my pc.

Success at last. David's suggestion worked. Thanks for the advice.
