Well, it's finally working! I had to cave in and sign up for the mobile web service. After 2 days and 4 phone calls later, my mobile web service and Prism internet access connections are working. I guess Denny Atkin and Mark Eagle were correct, mobile web service is needed.
I still have to question those that have posted and are still posting that they have gotten access without this service on Verizon.
1. Are they truly sure that they don't have this service activated or unaware that they're on a free trial?
2. Is this just an issue with Verizon in NYC?
3. Is this just an issue with the ST7860W? All the postings mention the ST7868W.
For my mobile web access to be activated, I needed an IP address in my phone, was anyone aware of that?
If you'd like to check if you have one, these were the steps that Verizon gave me for my startac:
1. enter this number: "472337377" then press "FCN" twice
2. scroll to "LINK.A" press "STO"
3. scroll to "IP Addr 1" press "STO"
4. you can now view your ip address if you have one
5. press "STO" to set and exit
