The Infomitt pager is supposedly shipping today. Is anyone on the hook to get one of these things? I think I might hold out for the Glenayre @ctiveLink (http://www.glenayre.com/@ctiveLink/). Any thoughts?

I'm on the list to review one for my campus paper. I'll post a link to the review here when I'm done.

From an e-mail I received today:

The software on the InfoMitt Access has been upgraded to include the popular PageNow software from MarkSpace, Inc. www.markspace.com We are excited about this and feel it enhances the InfoMitt Access with some of the features you, our valued customers, requested.

However, because of the upgrade, the shipping date of the InfoMitt Access has been postponed once again so we can
include this new software on all the InfoMitts. We are targeting the end of this month as the new shipping date for
in-house orders.

im waiting for the infomitt pager also and am a little dissapointed with the way that infomitt has decided to delay untill the 31st. I don't understand what the markspace software will do. If I have to connect to a cell phone to send messages then why would i want the software installed on the pager. What good is communication between my pager and cell phone. If I wanted to send two ways I would have waited for the glenayre. Anyway even if this is some great bonus for us the buyers, why couldn't they have shipped the pagers and followed up with the software.

Ive written to infomitt twice and received no response. When I first saw the shipping date I was very enthusiastic about the product considering many of the other springboard designers were moving their shipping date back. When they moved the release date I became much less enthusiastic.

Think of it this way. There are probalby at least 100 people waiting for their pagers. Each of us paid 50 bucks or so for them, not including the service. When they move the date back they are basically getting a 5000 dollar loan from their customers (at least I wouldn't dought if it was much more than this). Anyway it all just ads up to poor customer service.

This is a message to all springboard manufacturers - If your not going to stick to your release dates than don't set them.

Actually, they are not allowed to charge your credit card until they ship the unit, I think. Have you received a charge already? It's not really a 'loan' if the money hasn't officially changed hands yet.

aha! Your probalby right. I haven't checked my statement yet. I still don't agree with the marketing strategy that the springboard manufacturers share. That is to get everyone interested and string them along indefinetely.

Angry and they moved the date back again.....sound familiar?

so they moved the shipping date back again. I guess since innogear can do it everyone else can too. These bogus businesses are surviving solely because the global economy is heathly enough for people to wait around to be served. I guess the only saving grace is that someday things will change and the consumer will actually be able to choose the products and company based on how they are served. And companies like innogear and global access will be long out of business. I'm cancelling my order.

I have looked at the InfoMitt and I am inpressed, however there are several major flaws as far a I'm conserned
1. No vibrating alarm - I can't have that thing buzzing all the time
2. Price - I can get a cool little pager for 10 dollors or less 40 bucks is a little high for a one way pager, but I can understand the usefulness of the module, and i supose that would justify the price.
3. The service seems a bit strange. from what i've read on the infomitt site the service is 10,000 pageing units or three months. While 10,000 pages for $40.00 isn't bad, a pageing unit is not equal to a page.

In response to the post about the active link - the active link isn't a pager, it is a wireless internet module, see my thread: http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...p?threadid=7798 about the active link for more info.

For Pageing service I'm leaning twords the CUE radio because there dosen't seem to be any limitations to the pageing service: 15 dollors for 100 messages (local) and 49 for national, while the national is a bit overpriced $0.15 per message is resionable. Not to mention the other stuff you get with the CUE. It is a more exepensive module at $150 but I think that it is a beter value, and hopefully with the release of the other radios the price will fall some.

Arrow

What cool little alphanumeric pager costs $10 that you can reply to and send when you HotSync?

The service that comes with the InfoMitt can be customized to your needs. After the initial service you can make it be anything from numeric only to unlimited message per month.

For the money, I think the Infomitt is a cheap way to get "almost wireless" capability.

I was stating my uses and how it would work for me, and after reading the information I came to thoes conclusions. Your right that ten dollors may be a little under for an alphanumeric pager but it's ball park for numeric. However for almost wireless access my bet is still on the CUE

James, with the Infomitt, can I use other service plans? I looked up SkyTel and they don't have any unlimited plans for their SkyWord services (which is what the Infomitt uses).

Should I hold out for the CUE Radio? I can afford the $150, if it has a good service plan (like OmniSky's).

Thanks,
Leo

my sugestion is CUE, it's pageing service is $0.15 a message. (100 for $15) plus its a web clipper, radio and other cool stuff. the only downside is that the module is better in my opinion.

I don't know if you can use someone besides Skytel, but you can use other service plans, and I thought somewhere there was infinite paging.

Slightly off topic, but relevant

With all of the recent problems regarding springboard modules/vaporware has anybody been looking at the TRG unit
as an alternative? The CF technology is more widely used, and I would be curious to get feedback from anyone who uses both the Visor and TRG as to which one seems to be more "usable".
