Question

My Prism will not hotsync.

I just got exchanged my palm IIIc for my new prism. I was happy with my IIIc but luckily I had my receipt (was within the 14 day exchange time) for when it was $400 and just paid an extra 50 for the Prism. (oh and for my .02- the comparison is very similiar although I have noticed I have the "please wait" screen come up a bit more often on my Prism- But switching between most apps IS faster. I do notice the colors better with Prism but have not been able to see them greatly due to the inability to move pictures or videos over.)

I am a new user to PDAs and as a student I use it a lot. My IIIc hotsync'd really well with my computer (via serial). I am not REALLY familiar with the hotsyncing but was able to load a few programs like TETRIS (haha) and got my addresses and memos sync'd onto my pc from my IIIc- SO I was essentially able to do it. BUT my Prism will not hotsync. I originally tried using the software (do not know if the versions are diff) already loaded onto my pc from the IIIc's but my prism said this message "the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." (as a side note I am a proficient user of my pc) SO obviously I know the diff between serial and USB)

SO here is what I have tried- any other suggestions would be of help.

- I made sure there was a check mark next to local usb on hotsync desktop.
- I changed the Prism's connection pref to "USB to pc" & I have also tried "USB/serial to pc." Neither work.
- I saved my folder that had all the info in it from the palm IIIc software, uninstalled it and then installed the prism's software.
- I have tried the drivers on the Prism's software CD and installed that.
- Haha- as a last resort I even tried rigging my USB like you would a mouse to use the serial port. I didn't think it would work but I thought "hey why not."
- THEN I DLed the newest HS software ( http://www.handspring.com/support/softwareup.jhtml )avail on their website (not sure if it was any diff- it doesn't look like it is)- uninstalled the prism's software and installed the HS (downloaded) desktop.

Lo and behold nothing has worked. It always said on my Prism that unable to connect message

(just in case FYI - my system is Windows ME, plenty of everything, and I run my mouse off USB (I've switched the mouse to make sure the 2 USB ports work and they both do)

I bought this thing 3 hours away from where I live because no one around me had the Prism and would prefer not to do it again. If I drive all the way back up to Dallas to exchange it I am really considering trading once more for the iPaq.

I like my Prism (as I did with the IIIc- but I thought hey more colors and supposedly faster palm for $50 why not) but am not above trading for the PPC because its all still new.

Please help!?!?! Save me the trip and possibly the mistake of going PPC over Palm OS haha
