I know I ask this every few months, but I never really get an answer, and me being curious and all...

Anyways, I was just wondering if we'll ever see a software section on Visor Central. I'm still starving for some GOOD unbiased comparison reviews of software apps...and why not find them on Visor Central

Is there anything we can do to help out?

Anxiously waiting...

I agree with homer and I don't understand why this question is routinely ignored. We're all busy people with lives and such, so even if the answer is "we haven't had time" then that's understandable and most of us would be ok with that. If it's just on the back burner or getting blown off altogether, that's ok too, just let us know. We're just curious....

Right now it is on the back burner... We would love to add a software section to the site, but it is such a massive undertaking.

The people we outsourced the old software section to ran into legal problems, so we had to take it down. The matter was quite sensitive, therefore the lack of information.

We have since held discussions with several sites that currently have software archives about a co-branded version, but no firm decisions has been reached.

However, if readers would like to help us build a great software archive (ie contacting developers, getting their consent, managing the database etc) we can design the framework for the section and make it database driven, and the software team can help us it. This would currently be on a voluntary basis since no funds are allocated to such a project.

Thanks,

Well, as long as you throw us a free t-shirt now and then, I'm willing!

Actually, it's not so much about being able to download software, but rather being able to read thorough comparion reviews from those that use the software.

I'd love to be able to search for a type of software (ie "project managers") and see a comprehensive list of options, reviews, and comparisons.

None of the other sites really have that feature. PalmSpot is (no pun intended) a bit spotty when it comes to finding comprehensive lists. PalmGear is just horrendous at matching results with search terms (and it's slow...and ugly). handango is a bit better...usually useful, but again, no real reviews.

As a possible alternative, why not a software discussion area outside of the general one. Maybe find volunteer editors to skim the content out of the discussion board and archive them in the software section. Perhaps just accept user reviews (there's always someone looking for SOME sort of software in the discussions...maybe have them gather their results into an article)?

I don't even think you need to have the software on the site (just add a search box to handango or something) but being able to at least catalog the titles into meaningful categories and cross-reference them with like applications and reviews would make it a great resource.

Just some ideas. Again, I'd be glad to help.

As for the legal problems with the previous site, I understand the silence...though now you have us REALLY curious

Now, was that so hard? Seriously, thanks for the info. I agree with homer (again, or still)..I don't necessarily care if I can get the software here, I would just like some comparison and recommendations from people whose opinions I've come to trust to help weed through the crap. I'd be glad to help too, although I admit I don't have a clue what all would be involved. Thanks again Marcus.
