Combo Bluetooth/WLAN chip on horizon

Had a chat with a friend of mine who's been an insider design tech for QComm and Erikson, and is now working for a startup designing a new chip for mobile devices. Apparently it will combine Bluetooth & 802.11b on the same chip, allowing wireless connectivity in any setting! Since they are just the chip designers, they have no actual consumer product goals, but I suggested to him that it would be a Good Idea(tm) to encourage a SpringBoard module using the chip.

As far as his company is concerned, they see BlueTooth as an inevitability by 2003. Considering this company is hanging their star on this tech, I'd say it's a fair bet the BT isn't stillborn just yet.
