Question

I'm thinking about buying a new PDA, and definately want to go with Handspring, and I'm choosing between the Deluxe and Platinum. I like everything about the Platinum, but I hear some cons about the casing. Can anyone identify what it is made out of? Some say it is some cheap plastic, unlike the Deluxe casing. And how is the silver color made? Is the plastic silver, or is it painted on? I've heard it is painted on, this may chip and eventually fade away, leaving the Platinum bare as a very ugly deivce. Can anyone verify this?
Also, any help in helping me decide between the two devices will help, thanks.

yeah.. i had my unit for a couple days now and i'm finding that the damn black snap-on cover causes some scratching to the silver casing... and the scratches are black.

which means the silver was painted on.

Platinium

I've had my platinium, for a few weeks, and I have noticed no real scratching in the area described above. If you are careful with the cover you can avoid such scratches. I would also care to point out that the plastic is greyish with a silver paint layered over it, to my knowledge, so any black scratches would have to come from the plastic cover itself. Hope this helps.

Dan

I've had my for almost a week. I'm sure it will scratch unless you treat it like a 300 dollar piece of equipment. Just becareful and it's fine. the plastic is gray and painted silver. It looks really cool and as long as your careful. My screen depresses a more than my old palm 3 which takes getting used to, wished they had spent more time on that to make it better.

Actually after switching to a Deluxe from a palmIII, and getting use to the looser screen i've found that i like it better, i think it gives a better physical feedback. Kinda like a regular keyboard as opposed to a laptop keyboard.

the guy above was right, the black comes from the snap-on cover, and the plastic is greyish...

i dunno about you guys, but i put my pda in my pocket, so the cover tends to rub and squeeze against the pda when i sit down... hence the quick case deterioration.
