Having just received my Ice Deluxe, I can now join some other topic besides *****ing about the shipping delays. Ordered Oct 9, btw, not TOO bad, though a harrowing experience.
I like the unit in general. I have to say that I agree with the more minor criticisms. I don't like the stylus, the relatively squishy screen. The see through ICE color is a big mistake. It looks a $12 child's toy, all plastic and junky. The big advantage here though is that it seems lighter than a Palm 3. I wonder if that is true? If so, I'll take the cheap looking plastic. But I recommend that you get graphite!
Also, as reported, without question the single most objectionable thing is the flip top which has to be entirely removed to use the thing. Bad, very bad.
Syncing=--I'm using USB at home. My computer crashes constantly. It makes WinZip crash. When I try to exit Hot Sync Manager, the sound develops a conflict and pings. When I'm in HS Manager, there are slow downs in Explorer. I don't know if this is coming from something Visor did or Palm's software, but this is way more unstable than the software for the Palm 3 that I was using with a serial cradle.
I was a JOT user, which I loved. It doesn't seem to work very well on the Visor when you are using JOT character recognition. The big screen writing still works OK with graffiti.
Works pretty similarly to a Palm otherwise, for those upgrading.
Good points: the Date Book+ software is exceptional and a nice improvement. It's cheap.
It's a nice little unit. I don't regret getting it. I admit that I am not quite as enthused as I was.
