The MMC's are are a bit expensive themselves. SanDisk sells a 32mb card for $99. (I haven't done much pricing, so I don't know if this is a fair price or not...) Based on that price, the 64mb MiniJam doesn't cost that much. (Also, don't forget that Handspring's 8mb module is $80. )
quote: InnoGear Product FAQ - January 15, 2000:
Q: What else will the MiniJam do?
A: Additional features and enhancements for MiniJam include <snip> Memory Expansion for your Visor: MiniJam will also act as a hard disk for your Visor applications and database files. you will be able to store Visor related data on the MiniJam memory.
Q: How much will MiniJam cost?
A: That depends on the memory configuration, and pricing is not final as of right now, but we are estimating a 64meg version to be about $225 and a zero memory model to be under $100 (zero memory MiniJams will be available for customer who already have MMC flash cards and/or who wish to buy MMC memory elsewhere).
I wonder if this is still true? Can I store some ebooks on the MiniJam? (Sort of a "combo" device - MP3's AND storage?) If so, the MiniJam is starting to look like a bargain. (HS: $80 for 8mb, 32mb MMC for $99. Hmmmm...) I wonder if they will still sell an "empty" module?
