I do know that they use the ATT system.

Today I tried for hours, at different times, to contact YY. They are not answering their phones. I then went onto OmniSky's web site and checked and my Minstrel S modem from YY can be flashed. I also double checked that with a Tech. I signed on for one month's service - no charge for a modem - and downloaded the software to flash the Minstrel S. OmniSky uses Verizon, as does YY. That works pretty well in the areas I need, so it's worth a try for at least a month. I'll report on how that flashing goes...

I confirmed similar info with Omnisky. Yes, you can flash the modem and use Omnisky service, however, the tech warned that Omnisky has not been able to verify with YY that YY is actually "ceasing" (although we know the phones aren't being answered). So he (Omnisky rep.) recommended that we wait until we here it straight from YY mouth before trying to switch. But, when we do need to switch, they will be waiting for us with open arms.

Ok I got someone at Verizon who knows what a Minstrel Modem is. Unfortunately Verizon does not support The Minstrel S modem for the Visor at this time. They only sell and support modems for the Palm V, III, Windows CE and Pocket PC PDA's. The guy was familiar with Handspring but didn't know when Verizon would sell a Modem for it' or if there would be any flash software for a co-branded Minstrel S. Here's their Mobile IP website and phone #. http://www.app.airtouch.com/mobile_...s/pocketpc.html

Which Visor do you have? Most people have said that Omnisky won't work with a Visor Deluxe, and Omnisky's web site only mentions the Platinum.

Fortunately I do have a Platinum. The flashing went smoothly last night. Now I have to drive to an area where I can access the service, to test it out and set up POP mail...we are just a little too remote here to reach it at this time...

Lowtech,

Could you tell me what is the link on the omnisky page that you download the SW to flash the Minstrel S? Thanks.

Angry Feeling like an orphan too old to be adopted

I am, of course, totally confused about what my contract was. I was an early purchaser - I think with a 6 month contract. When they started giving the modem away for free, they credited my account for my purchase price and, I think, extended my contract out to 12 months. However, I've never been billed a monthly charge (hmmm, maybe why they're having financial difficulties ).

Been trying to get online here in L.A. for a couple of days, with no luck.

Looking forward to someone find out whether AT&T or Verizon will work.

Oh, btw, for future reference, there is a way to use PQA's on modems other than the Palm VII. Surewave Browser, from JP Mobile (http://www.jpmobile.com), worked like a charm on my Minstrel S and Visor Deluxe.

I got ahold of a person at YADA YADA today..
(I was calling to get the status of my replacement modem)

They will be announcing something next week (also why my replacement is delayed)

He did say that no one is getting billed at this time though.. Good news for all of you with working modems..

That's about all he could tell me...

This is good news in that we are not being charged, but in my opinion, it's bad news for continued service. If they've stopped billing, it's just a matter of time before they stop providing the service. Oh well, I was hoping that maybe if someone bought YadaYada there might not be an interruption of service. I find myself holding my breath every time I use YadaYada, just waiting for it to stop working .

Red face YadaYada ...

I don't get it! I just visited their homepage and it had been updated! What kind of message does YY try to send? Any comments?

This can't be good!

As of this afternoon, I can't connect and get a registration error 3 ["NEI is not authorized to use this subnetwork"] in the LA area. This sucks!

I got that error a couple of times in the past when YadaYada was a healthy company and a call to customer service would fix it. Don't be so sure that it is at all related to YadaYada's current situation. On both occasions, they had to reset something or other and give me a new DNS. Despite the fact that they're going under, I'd call them anyway. Apparently, they're still doing some business since they're updating their website and releasing new software. What have you got to lose?

Hey maybe someone else has had this problem and knows the fix.. Last week I went to plug in my Minstrel and it now just sends my Visor off into a never ending warm reset loop.. All my other springboards work fine.. needless to say, I can't re-flash the module as when the preferences screen appears it jumps into a warm reset instantly (i.e. the Palm Computing screen).. I even tried a hard-reset, still sends the Visor into a fit of never ending resets..

Any suggestions, I tried the up button while inserting the springboard and it doesn't seem to work..

I think if I can just get the springboard in without the Visor sensing it being inserted, It shouldn't trigger it off into a warm reset loop.

I'm game to try any suggestions..

Thanks..

EricG, try to use the eraser.prc from memplug to erase the flash on your modem, I use it when I update my modem to rev c and it always give me fatal error when I put it into springboard slot. I use the eraser program and reflash my modem and now it's working.
Good Luck!

ps: just in case you need the link, http://memplug.sjweb.net/myupdate.htm

Thanks, but I can't get my Visor to stop soft-resetting itself long enough to try to run it when the modem is in the springboard slot. You just don't get the chance to launch any applications.. it's stuck in a reset loop.
