Smile Reduce Stylus rattle

I was just wondering if anyone has experimented with any ways to reduce the rattle of the Edge stylus.
I cut a small part of the black foam stuff that is on headphones and pushed it into the hole where the bottom part of the stylus docks.

The rattle did not stop completely but it is much better, now I'm going to try to experiment with the amount of the foam stuff that I insert into the hole to try to achieve a non rattling stylus.

Well, while I was writing this I inserted a little bit more of the headphone foam into the hole, and the stylus does not rattle at all.

Now it's just a question of how long!

yup, I did the same thing but with tissue.

Worked great. it did wear out after a few weeks, but all i had to do was put in a new stack. Much more economical than earphone foam.

Lightbulb Rubber

Even better - I use a small pellet of polydimethylsiloxane (silicon rubber). The sample has been made to foam, and then allowed to harden in the foamed position. I just dropped the rubber in, it never wears out, and it's never fallen out either.

Good luck

Guys, the stylus is not supposed to rattle at all. Yours is simply a defect. Send it back to Handspring.

I don't think it's a defect, but just the way it is designed.

I'm on my THIRD Edge (the first 2 died...), and the stylus has rattled on all of them.

I doubt they'd take it back and replace it for a rattling stylus.

I think it is a stylus defect, not an Edge defect. I purchased the two-pack of extra styli and only one of them rattles when in the stylus holder on my Edge. If it was an Edge defect it seems that all three would rattle.

I think the rattle is a result of allowable manufacturing tolerances. Believe it or not, not everything that rolls off the construction floor is 'perfect'. There are so many little things that can go sour due to negligible differences. So i would hardly call this a returnable defect unless it's so loose that you can shake the stylus off (which i couldn't).

sometimes returning a product isn't worth the hassle when there's perfectly acceptable workarounds. especially in this case.

That's just my opinion.

I use a small piece of folded screen protector material. It works great and hasn't worn out yet -- 3 months.
