I am I Verizon subscriber in NYC. They made me jump through all those hoops too. And you have to just to set up an account. Yes it is stupid to have to install netscape when you already have it on your drive, but what you going to do when they said you need to do. :-(
But, I knew this going into it and was prepared. I made an image of my c:\ drive using Drive Image (Ghost will work too) install all the software (netscape, winpoet), made all the changes they wanted to the system then I was able to create the account.
After setting up my router, I was able to re-install the old image of the c:\ drive. Worked like a charm. :-)

Happy Treo 600 user, so far. Thanx Cingular for having an unlocked phone. 
My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.
