New Platinum user needs modem advice

Hey Everyone. Just bought a Platinum and need some advice on a modem. I use Earthlink as my ISP and was wondering if I could get away with using the Thin Modem Plus with the extra 8 megs of memory. Is there a better option for me. I really don't want to go wireless. I fly for a living so I spend a lot of time in Hotels with dedicated phone lines so thats not a problem. How about 3rd party software? Thanks for any info.

Welcome to the board! I recommend that you get the Thincom+. It comes with everything you need to use it out of the box including e-mail and web browsing software!

I will also give a vote for the ThinModem +.

I no longer carry a laptop when I travel, as 90% of the time I only used it for doing e-mail.

The TM+ comes with an OK Mail client (One-Touch) and a decent browser (Browse-it). They are both stored in the RAM on the Springboard, so they won't use any additional internal RAM. You are still free to use any other software you want, as the modem just makes a simple PPP TCP/IP connection to your ISP.

I have the original ThinModem and love it. I use it with my Prism and Earthlink is my ISP as well. It works great. I second the suggestion for keeping up with the Telephone numbers so you do not make Long Distance calls. I do wish I had the 8MB of memory in mine. That is the only thing that could improve it.

External modem

There is one other way to go, if you want to use an eternal modem such as the US Robotics 56K. You can connect to it with an RS232 data cable such as the PDCH-M9D-6 with a special adapter to adapt 9 pins to the 25 on the modem.

Eternal modem

Yep, that's why I've always said it's always better to get the eternal modem instead of the internal kind. You get so much more usage out of it!
