Well, like an idiot I left my visor in the car in the case. No it was not stolen, but since it did get very hot. The unit was rather warm to the touch to say the least. Turned it on and the screen was black!

It took a bit of time to recover to normal contrast. I just hope I did not damage the LCD by the excessive heat.

Seems to be working ok now, but just wanted to warn the masses out there.

I did that to a color Casio calculator - left in my car for a whole weekend out in the sun.

After it finally cooled down on the way home - it worked absolutely fine, never any problems from it.

I actually did the same thing to my old Palm III, leaving it in a car, in the middle of the summer, in Oklahoma! I left it in there for a day or so, but once it cooled down it worked just fine.

Hi:

All I can think of is that the LCD matrix recovers from being cooked like that, but I still don't think it is a good idea.

Yup, I think all LCD's will do that. I used to have a casio watch that I would leave in my car. At a certain temperature the LCD goes black. The watch never died, but still...probably not a good experiment. =)

I use mine in the car every day. When I am driving, I have to remember to put it under a magazine or something so that the sun doesn't hit it directly. Otherwise, it gets darker and darker until I let it cool off for a few minutes.

Occasionally, I used to forget my Palm Pilot in the hot car for hours. The screen was always black, but recovered quickly after taken out of the heat.

By the way, if it is not solid black, adjusting the contrast will help until it cools off.

What people will leave in a car, which becomes incredibly hot in the sun, runs from Visors to pets to perishables like wine. Just don't do it! (The next time someone tells you they ship wine in the dead of August but it's OK because of styrofoam...remember this story.)
