Question

Have had my Visor Deluxe and Win98 humming along nicely for about a week and then tonight when I tried to HotSync I got the "Cannot establish a connection" error on my Visor. I tried the REGISTRY edit mentioned here, but no go. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to add some info...

The machine I have been using has USB ports (2) built into the motherboard (and are enabled both in the BIOS and OS). The strange thing is that I have not done one thing to this machine software/hardware wise during the time I have had my Visor. The only thing is I usually take the cradle with me when I am finished using this PC. I left it last night connected to the PC. I don't see how this would be a problem though...

I am going to try and find another PC with a USB port so I can figure out whether or not my cradle is broken.

Try a soft reset to get your Hot Sync on track once more. You didn't mention having tried this and many of us have had situation similar to yours only to find the soft reset worked to solve the problem.

I have tried rebooting the PC, as well as the Visor (via the Hackmaster RESET). I haven't tried the paper clip, but I will try that tonight.

i posted earlier last week about my solution for this problem. like yourself, soft reset didn't work for me. here's a copy of my post:

Well, I FINALLY got it to work. I tried all the various approaches that other people suggested (soft reset, disabling/reenabling hotsync manager, turning off PNP OS in the bios, reinstalling palm desktop, etc.).
Nothing worked. Finally yesterday, I figured it out. First, turn off Hotsync Manager. Go into System (in the Control Panel) and find the Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller and remove it. That's right, remove it. Then reboot the computer. At the startup, the computer will redetect the USB and reinstall a bunch of drivers. After that, launch hotsync manager (should already be loaded if it's in your startup folder) and VOILA. It works.

Thanks for the info. Dunno what is was, but I think the paper clip reset did the trick. The CONTROL PANEL tip is also a very good idea.
