Printing via IR is great - I do it with my Canon BJC85. Unlike the printer in question, it uses plain paper. I can't stand thermal.

It costs twice as much, and is slightly larger, but these are sacrifices I'm willing to make for a useful piece of equipment as opposed to a novelty item.

Non-IR Printing

What I don't get is why someone hasn't come up with a serial cable so you can print from your Visor to printers that are not IR-capable.
I know that there is one for Palm PDA's, but have yet to see anything for the Visor.

I'd like to see one in person to see how small it is, but from the specs it sounds pretty good. If it's small enough it might be very useful for giving info to people on the go. I wouldn't need an IR capable home printer, I can hotsync and print from the desktop easily enough.

I have a HP IR portable deskjet printer that I take with me to the office and the hospital to print out patient notes. Using thermal paper is a major limitation and practically useless to me. If you do a lot of printing from the visor you will waste a lot of money on thermal paper, besides it being not readily available at most office locations.

visor printing

I'm using this new SiPix portable printer and its incredibly convenient. I do consults on patients, and now I can type out my reports on my Visor Prism and Stowaway keyboard, print em on the SiPix, and then copy and enlarge them on a copier or fax machine which is available at every nursing station to a full size font and 8 1/2 x 1l" page. And, I can carry with me in my jacket pocket or in a small wallet as opposed to having to carry a briefcase. I'm only worried about availability of the properly sized thermal paper. Cost per page seems to me to be equivalent to portable injket, since I don't have to pay for ink cartridges. Anybody else using it?

SiPix

Hello,

I just purchased the SiPix PocketPrinter A6. So far, it's an outstanding piece of equipment. The software that "Comes with it" works flawlessly. Although, I did notice that if you have the serial cable connected between the PC and the printer (for printing from your PC/Laptop) it won't work with the Ir on the Palm (I use a Prism). You need to make sure that the cable is not connected (probably in the manual, but who reads manuals

I bought some sheets of A6 printer paper as well as two boxes of "rolls". Yes, you read that right, you can use either or! The sheet-Fed gives a more "Professional" appearance, I had a hard time tearing the paper straight (usually, it was jagged).

I've only sent about 10 test print pages tonight. But this thing is really cool! The quality is very good. The size of the printer is EXCEPTIONAL. If I lay the Prism on top of it, it's about 1" taller and about 1" wider. It uses 4 AA batteries and comes with a carrying pouch.

The downside that I have noticed is that with PalmPrint and Bachman Print manager both I received "Fatal Alert" messages. Not the fault of the printer, but rather the print software itself. I've sent e-mails to both of those companies and if I get a response back from them, I'll repost it here.

Otherwise, an impressive device. The program that comes with it allows you to print from all your built-in applications (including Mail, Addressbook, Datebook, Todolist and memos.) I was printing with the VisorPhone module in-place, so there are not conflicts here (although, this could have potentially effected the "Other Guys" software that I mentioned above. I did try without the VisorPhoen with PalmPrint and still received the same error message however...)

If you need to print from any of the built-in applications anytime, anywhere (on small sheets of paper) and be able to print from a Windows 9x/2k machine then this is the printer for you. If you want color prints from any Palm application, you may want to consider waiting until more develoers sign-up to support this GEM of a printer.

Has anyone else out there had luck with PalmPrint or Bachman Print Manager? Please let me know. As I stated earlier, I only tested this printer out tonight (for about 2 hours total with various packages) so any or all of what I said above could be "User Error".

I'll should know more soon though.
