Anyone looked at the new Bumper case by ConceptKitchen designed for the visor at Staples.com? I saw it last night, looks interesting, but there are no additional pictures at staples or on the conceptkitchen website.

Diggin' the Bumper!

Not sure if I have the "new" Bumper Case or not. I bought it about 2 weeks ago at BestBuy (and I know this particular generic case has been out for a while). I added a belt clip by cutting a hole in the back and using a cell phone detachable belt clip. This case is now, the best I've ever had. Although mine's not made specifically for the Visor, it fits snugly and the 1/8" extra room on the sides gives my Plat a bit more "give" if dropped. The stylus holders are pretty tight at first, but loosen up with use. If there's now a Visor specific Bumper Case, I'll have to check it out.

The new Bumper

New Bumper looks pretty slick!

Thanks for the heads-up! Definately a new design. As I posted earlier, my Bumper has 1/8" of space on each side. Using my trusty ruler and the dimensions from the Staples site, the new one fits snug. While the semi-transparent cover looks cool, since I wear mine on my belt, I'm not sure I want everyone having a peek at my Plat! Overall, it looks solid and chances are, I'll have a new case in about a month.

I've been eyeing this case, too, but have been a bit hesitant as there were complaints with the original Palm bumpers that the case was a bit shoddy especially in terms of the cover staying shut.

Any other reports from users?

I just got mine

I just got mine Visor bumper last night. I like it! This bumper is specially tailored for the visor, fits very nice and snug. There's about 1/4" of rubber surrounding the visor, you get the feeling that the visor is very well protected and secure.

The bumper's rubber material offers a different tactile feel, not unpleasant just different from the fabric and leather material that other cases are made of.

There are "patterns" in the rubber over the springboard slot and the bottom of the case. I guess if you want you can cut the rubber out to expose these areas for oversized modules and cable hot-synch.

The lid of the bumper opens sideways and you can fold the lid completely behind the case and there's a tab that will hold the lid there. I really like this feature. There's a tab to hold the lid close, and this is pretty secure. I have not noticed the lid coming loose yet. The lid is not transparent, it's frosted. You can tell you visor is on, but you can't actually read the contents with the lid close.

The visor is well exposed with the lid opened, access to all the buttons and the screen is unhindered. There is an opening for the IR port. I wish there was a hole in the back of the case to allow for resets.

The case is about the size of the RhinoSkin Ti-slider, a little bigger than the Rhodiana and Vaja case. The design of the Bumper case is very well thought out, very functional, and offers superb protection vs. drops, water, and slippery fingers. Taking the case out of the case and inserting the case is fairly easy, a lot less complicated than the Rhodiana. The case allows the visor to keep some of it's form-factor and yet offers protection...very cool.

I really wish that I could wear this case on my belt. The modifications suggested by HRdude will not work because the lid is folded against the back of the case. Currently, I putting the bumper in the Ti-sliders belt clip case, fits fairly well.

Anyway, this would be a close to perfect case if I could wear it on my belt. Maybe the people at conceptkitchen could design a carrying case for the bumper. If you want protection without sacrificing size and form, this case may suit you well.

No one has said, but I'm guessing this is not sized for the prism?

I don't think that my bumper case can fit the prism. Although the rubber can stretch...but I wouldn't think that it could fit. Sorry.

On the Staples site I believe it says that the reason theres a cutout for the HotSynch port is so you can recharge, so one would presume is would work with the Prism (Or the Edge).

That's a good point. Maybe the bumper can fit the Prism. I'm looking at mine, my platinum is fitting fairly snug in the case. I don't know... a prism may fit.

Glad you're enjoying your case! Nice detail in your post, answered a few questions I had. Regarding the lid staying shut... I wasn't too keen on the little nub holding the lid shut on mine, but I've come to appreciate it. It has never come open and opens and shuts with almost no sound (great for meetings). I knew when I bought it, that I would have to sacrifice some functionality to wear this on my belt (lid not folding flush to the back of the case), but it is well worth it. Since I'm up and about all day, I need a quick-draw type of case to jot notes and check meeting schedules, so I usually don't need to flip the cover all the way back. I did, however, position the belt clip toward the bottom of the case (it hangs upside-down) so, even folded back the cover is less than 1/4" away from the case.

Thanks for all of the feedback...it sounds like the cover issue has been resolved with this newer case.

OK, here's the real test: had anyone dropped their visor using this case, yet?

they tested it

I think the people at conceptkitchen actually tested the protection of the bumper. I think I have read that the bumper can safely withstand a 4 foot drop on to hard surface.

I think that my bumper adequately protects my platinum against most normal accidents. Although I haven't intentionaly or accidently drop mine yet, but the year is still young.

Bumper

I was looking at the picture and was wondering how much bulk it adds to the VDX. As for carrying on belt the Rhinopak 2000 will easily work and if was not to bulky most of the zippered cases may work. Only thing holding me back is to see what the EDGE is going to be all about.
