Thumbs up

I've been inpressed at just how much you can cram in here.

I've got the whole bible, 5 Dickens books, pictures of my daughter, lots and lots of notes, and about a dozen games.

I've got 4433 of 7936K free. That's pretty cool!

I'm in the process of converting the entire Dickens collection from the Gutenberg Project into doc format. You can see it up on Memoware.com. I use CSpotRun to read the files. I'm a big Dickens nut, in case you wondered. Anybody in the market for the complete works of Dickens, in doc format, on CD? Should be ready in a month or so.

Rich

3946 K free
with lots of docs (including entire KJV Bible), games (my six year old is turning into a Galax fiend), hacks, image viewers, drawing/painting programs, WABA, CASLrt, DB utilities, and the list goes on. I'm currently trying out several different programs that do the same thing, and really appreciate being able to have them all installed at once.
8MB is nice!

Talking

I've got 861K free on my VDx. That's the Bible, a couple of novels, about 2 megs of AvantGo and a bunch of junk I probably don't need. Now if I'd just fork over the cash for the 8meg expansion module, I could have an entire library in my pocket.

I know this is silly, but:

3220K free / 7936K - internal
2828K free / 8110K - Flash card

So I figure that gives me:

6048K free / 16046K total

or:

9998K *used*

There are all the usual suspects; e-books, KJV Bible, AvantGo, etc. plus games (Dragonbane, KQ, et. al.).

I have found the biggest problem to be organization. I have nine tabs in Launcher III just to keep things separate. The apps are so small that you can load enough to get lost.

6119K of 7936K free.

I have AvantGo, Franklin Planner, a trial version of this Chicago travel guide, FanMate (yes!), smallWare solitaire (I won my first game of demon solitaire today; it took 173 tries), the Death of Socrates, TealDoc, Pocket Quicken, Mirror, Undocumented Palm Info, and there might be some things I forgot. Real glad I got the 8MB.

I highly recommend spending the extra money and getting the 8 megs. This is my first PDA and I filled it up completly in a week with AvantGo, many games, the bible, a couple of books, and several demos of commercial programs. I know I'm probably overdoing it because of the novelty and because I've never had such a neat device, but I would have been terribly dissapointed if I had gotten the 2 megs and had filled it up in no time. Once you narrow down your choices to only the esential software 2 megs will be enough, but remember that new more powerful programs are being created all the time, Doom, I hear, will be a memory hog. If you want to carry pictures in 16 grayscale (looks good) you'll want more memory for these neat extras.

Cool

3206k of 7936 free.

AvantGo (of course)
Quartus Forth development system
HandMap with map of Baltimore MD
Thesaurus
Moon INfo
Star Chart
Games (Ancient Red, DragonBane, Galactic Realms)
Novels (20,000 Leagues under the Sea, A Princess of Mars, Gods of Mars, Warlord of Mars, Chessmen of Mars, Thuvia of Mars, The Poison Belt, A Christmas Carol)
Info docs (Babylon 4 episdode guide, Periodic table, Solar System facts, Geometric conversions, Book of Shadows, ISO/ANSI Forth standard, Palm OS Errors )

And I'm sure I'm just scratching the surface.

This Visor is just too cool for words!

(However, out of fear, I have avoided any hacks. Maybe later...)

3.7MB free internal and 4.5MB free on 8 MB module. This is after I dumped a bunch of stuff that I really don't use.

Another 2MB Visor owner checks in:

1663 used of 1792K (129K free)

Have a deluxe sure would be nice, but I haven't really had any problems living inside the 2MB fence. There are a lot of things I tried and discarded -- the "limited" RAM forces me to really consider what would actually be of value, rather than just a curiosity.

Of course, this is my first PDA, and I'm still dizzy with delight having discovered how much more I can do than just store addresses & appointments! I'll pick up the 8MB flash module in the near future though.
