I am looking for my first dive into the PDA world. Right now I'm carrying around a paper (ugh!) and the Visor really looks great. I will need to be able to update on the road so I would appreciate some advice on using the modem as well as big picture advice on the Visor.

Thanks, Bill

Though Handspring is having its initial growing pains, I really think this is the best bet.

It will be my first PDA also and I believe there is a program that will let you connect to an ISP and synch through the modem.

For price and what it offers it is a great deal!

Now if I could just get mine...

Also if you haven't read much on the Springboards, they look very promising.

Bill:

If you've arrived here and read the many posts on the Visor, and you STILL would consider buying one, I'd recommend, at the least, waiting until Handspring is able to provide customer service along with prompt delivery of the product. If you need something right now, get a IIIx from www.valueamerica.com and take advantage of their "initial purchase" discount. Otherwise, come back in a few months and see a) whether Handspring has improved itself to the point where it's a legitimate company, or b) if Handspring is still in business.

Despite the dissatisfaction with Handspring's shipping and ordering problems (and the initial orders WERE a disaster, and annoying the vocal early adopters is not a good idea), the Visor Deluxe itself is a GREAT little unit.

If you're patient and don't mind waiting 4-6 weeks for one, it's a great gadget. The USB Hotsyncing is nice and speedy, having 8MB of RAM is wonderful, and the potential of the Springboards is obviously a good thing.

I upgraded from the IIIx to a blue Visor and, while I was really annoyed with my delayed/lost order, I'm ecstatic with the unit itself.

(And comments about Handspring possibly not being in business in a few months are just plain silly...)

Thanks for the inputs. It sounds like a great machine but Handspring is overwhelmed with orders. Any inputs on the modem? I'm curious if I can connect to my current ISP (earthlink) and get email and modified web pages while on the road.
