We have seen a few instances of error messages or lockups during the upgrade process of modules. This is usually due to a low-level 3rd-party driver or hackmaster that tries to do some database operations in the middle of an update. In these instances, that driver or hack will likely crash because the files (which were previously present on the module) have been wiped out or rearranged.
To avoid this problem, we have changed the Updater application to not allow any 3rd-party system activity to occur during the update itself. However, we could not prevent it once the update is finished and the user is prompted to reset their unit. As a result, you may still see an error at the end of the update process, but the update is successful.
On a test unit in which I have the Stowaway Keyboard driver installed, this is a common occurrence...
