1. Anyone have any idea how to get my cd burner (QPS) to work in iTunes? My life would be much easier using one program (which is why I triple-checked to make sure I got one that was listed as compatible), and Toast is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

2. How can I download this commercial so I don't have to view it on Apple's website? I want it saved to disk, and possibly show it on my website.

Dick,

I don't know the answer to your first question, but the QT Movie should be located in your web browser's cache folder. For example, if your using IE, it is located in a folder called "Temporary Internet Files". At least, that's true on a Windows machine, so I'm assuming IE still uses it's own native folder, even on a Mac.

Cool Welllll

Dickety Doo,

1) I dunno the answer. Sorry

2) If you're using Netscape, access the actual .mov file (you may have to go into the pages "source code" to find the addy) and hit save when it loads.

I find myself doing that ever since I found out that my Pro key doesn't work with QT 5, and the hacked codes only work on 4.0

This is a specific list of compatible/supported CD-R drive configurations (which I guess maybe you have seen already):
http://www.apple.com/itunes/compatibility/

This is a visual demonstration (in Quicktime) of how to burn using iTunes:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/theater/burn.html

In iTunes, if you go to the Edit Menu, select Preferences, then click the Advanced tab, it should say if it sees a supported burner. My burner (APS) is not supported, so I don't actually know if this works.

I hope that's in some way helpful. Or at least not frustrating.

1) Go to Macintouch.com and search for iTunes. There is a lot of info on that site. Otherwise, go to MacFixit.com and search there.

2) The above answers are correct. For the Cache solution, it's a bit tricky, because the file is named something like 93h34kn409309845.mov. You need to watch the movie, and then search your hardrive (or your cache folder) for a larger file that may be the movie. Drag it to your desktop and rename it.

Alternatively, bblue's solution works sometimes when they embed the movie direcly in the HTML code. Find the URL for the movie. Go to DOWNLOAD FILE, and paste that specific URL into that window.

Apple probably doesn't want you posting their commercials on your site, though.

Why not? Free advertising. If they'd have a problem with it, I won't show it, but you'd think they'd let anyone and everyone download their commercials and show them wherever and whenever they wanted. Hell, they air them on TV, so don't the broadcast media rules apply (like taping movies on HBO for your own personal use)?

Anyway, the file that's saved in my cache is the first screen (says "Click here to continue") with nothing after it. I took a look at the source code and was able to pull a .mov file (which doesn't work if you cut and copy the location into the address field (http://a772.g.akamai.net/5/772/51/3...rt_long-ref.mov). So I put the link in an embed tag on a test webpage (http://24.181.219.126/test.html) and I only get the middle 1/3 of the screen. What now?

Check you're plugin settings (ctl-click on an embedded quicktime object). There's a checkbox for saving the .mov to disk cache that apparently isn't set by default.

Hope this helps.

In WinME I just right click on the down arrow and click save movie. So they do let you save it--some websites (especially movie trailers) won't let you save the movie but this will. You must have a registered version (Quicktime Pro) to do this however. This is in a WinME system though--YMMV.

I got the movie.

Now to hunt down answers to the cd burner compatibility "issue."

Thanks,

You have to download two programs: iTunes AND Disc Burner. I was under the impression that everything was bundled with iTunes. If you still have problems, TomeViewer can help somehow (I didn't need to use it, but it has something to do with getting into the Disc Burner installer and being able to run part of it that normally doesn't run).

Videotaping (and other forms of duplication) for personal use isn't the same as posting something to your website. It doesn't fall under the "fair use" clauses of copyright law.

If you post someone else's material on your website without their consent, you're violating copyright law, which is a whole big can o' beans I'm sure you wouldn't want to get into. If there was a statement at Apple's website along the lines of "reposting this material is okay" it would be fine, but without it, you should write to them to request permission to post the file (and don't expect to be allowed to).

On the other hand, you could easily add a link to the commercials page, and there would be no repercussions; you're just directing people to the official location.

It's a gray area, but you could make your own recording of an ad (from TV/cable signal) and import it to your computer, then post *that* file. Still, it's a recording of their copyrighted material.

I personally neither condone nor condemn this behavior.

Dick-
Which QPS drive do you have? I've got the 8x4x32 Firewire version. I haven't tried it with iTunes yet, but I was thinking about it.

Oh, and I also wanted to add that if you download movies using IE the name appears correct in the cache, but you have to change the filetype.

I have the 12X 10X 32X and it works quite nicely. I think it makes a better sounding cd than Toast (but it doesn't let you copy files to cd-rw's obviously), although Toast has the ability to do a direct cd copy (where it matches the everything to the original, including time between tracks).

Yeah, I noticed that. I got them working beautifully now.
