Question

There are two auctions on eBay for blue and ice colored Platinum models. It doesn't appear to be someone who is confused about the difference between the Deluxe and Platinum models. Are these legitimate? I checked Handspring's website and they only offer the metallic silver models.

Here's the link for the blue model:

Has anybody ever heard of this? The seller says that the colored models are only being offered on eBay.

I suspect they swapped cases from a VDX. Send them an email and ask.

I sent an email - haven't received a reply yet. I assume what you say is true (about swapping the cases). It seems rather strange though IMO. So what happens to the platinum cases - do they go on the deluxe? Yikes - that's looking for trouble (again IMO).

i guess the only way somebody would be able to tell is if it was running OS 3.5.2H right? is there any way of checking the clock speed on your visor...besides that hack..what's its name?

I was looking around eBay and I saw a Platinum colored VDX, so he must have swapped the cases. He probably hopes to get people to pay extra for his "special" VPL and more for the VPL...er...VDX.

Thumbs down

A waste of time, and not worth the bid. If this tinkered Visor craps out on you...you're SOL. The manufacturer does not make blue or ice platinums. I wish the bid winner the very best of luck. He/she has lost some dough if the thing breaks or dies.

They can't be out more than the $85 for a regular repair, can they? If I can shoot my vdx and still only pay $85 to have it replaced I would think someone could switch cases with the same result.

Exclamation

Once you've opened the housing, your warranty is voided. He/she would not be sending a real Platinum back to Handspring.

A replacement would be sent out, but he/she would be charged for it when the original (warranty voided) unit is sent back. A tough break, but as a "second hand" consumer it helps to do your homework.. especially around the Holidays.

Merry Christmas... and Caveat Emptor!
