Question

Could Handspring's version of OS 3.1h be used on a Palm IIIx?

Don't mean to sound dumb on this one, but doesn't the Palm IIIx ALREADY run version 3.1 of the Palm OS?

I believe what was meant is:
"Could Handspring's version of OS 3.1 H be used on a Palm IIIx?"

Yes, Palm IIIx has 3.1, but 3.1H is Handspring's version that includes USB support and they removed some wait states to make it run faster. There are also some other improvements.

Hope that helps.

mpenza, you got my meaning. But do you know if it will in fact run on the IIIx considering the hardware differences?

Unfortunatly, I don't know. If someone held a gun to my head and forced me to guess, I would doubt it. 3.1H probably also includes hardware specific changes for things such as the springboard. Maybe someone who currently has a Palm III would be willing to try?

Even if you could do it, I doubt it would be legal. You didn't pay for the enhancements done by Handspring, especially the apps they added to the OS. (Datebook, calculator and worldtime.)
