VisorPhone

I bought a VisorPhone on Ebay and I live in Norway, I have some questions:
When I first started the Phone it was looking for Network (the same way that if I take a Norwegian phone to a foreign country.)

Is the Phone then locked to an American provider?? If so how do I unlock it from the provider?

Is there any way I can do a hard reset?

When I open "Phone preferences" in the meny it tells me that phone is locked, and if I press "change lock password" then I have to write in the old password???

Also on the "Phone Info" it reads:
Number:91683395 .
IMEI: 520247251345990-18
Firmware Rev: v1.0

I got the following answer to my questions from the seller:

The phone may be "locked", I don't know. There
is probably some way to do a hard reset, but I don't know what it is.
Perhaps you can find out from Handsrping.
I am sorry, but I don't know the old password

Best regards Steinar

Draugen:

Did you put in your own SIM? I'm assuming you just put in the one from your current phone, right. Also note that the VisorPhone is digital only. If you happen to be in an area with only analog coverage then the VP won't be able to find a network.

i also bought a VP off ebay. i had no locking issue whatsoever (I'm in Canada). Did you buy one of the UK phones? I believe those ones are locked and somewhere on VC there is a thread about this. I don't think anyone figured out a way to unlock it.

The VP that I have in the UK certainly isn't locked to a specific service provider; admittedly it came straight from their PR company, but as far as I know, VP isn't a supported Cellnet or Vodafone product, so I can't see why there would be any locked one.

However, there are a couple of other points to make:

a) the searching for a network seems perfectly normal. That's what the VP I have here does when I first put a SIM in it, and then I have to choose one. It won't do this search the next time, unless it can no longer find the network it was previously registered to.

b) Phone Preferences doesn't tell me the phone is locked, but when I first try to turn the module on, I get the "Unlock phone" screen.

In fact, what it's actually asking for is the SIM card PIN code, so enter the same code your existing phone asks for when you turn it on.

If your present phone doesn't ask for one, then it's an option in the Security menus on Nokias. And you might find the manual that came with it will tell you what the default PIN code is; for example, in the UK, Orange SIMS have a default PIN of 1111, and by default the phones aren't set up to request it.

Hope this helps.

Nigel.
