Question

Handspring has extended their $50 rebate from April 15th, to April 30th. Does anyone think that Handspring is thinking about dumping the Visor and Deluxe from their product lineup?

Of Course

Of Course they are going to dump the older models. This is so obvious. NO product lines last forever you know?

I think that keep whatever they can afford to sell at $125 or so to compete with the m100. With Palm's overstock and the new lines coming out, the prices are going to drop. So Palm will have cheaper PDA's, better high-end PDA's, and expandable PDA's. HS is doing their best to compete at the high end, but if they drop the low end they're sunk. Either the 2mb or the 8mb is going to stay, IMHO.

With the prices dropping, I don't see how HS can make any money on even the 2 MB Visor. When you compare it to the M100, it is superior in almost every respect (except OS version). It is a larger PDA with a larger screen, a SpringBoard slot, USB, etc. To compete at the low end, I would not be surprised to see HS come out with a smaller nonexpandable unit and discontinue the 2MB Visor. Components and materials cost bucks. They can probably still make money at the $200 price point with the Visor Deluxe. If HandSpring would update the OS to 3.5 or 4.0, this would keep the Visor Deluxe more than competitive with the M105 for the foreseeable future.

I haven't heard anything about new low end PDAs, so I am not starting a rumor. Just thinking about what could happen.

Well, it doesn't seem that HS has any intentions of reducing the prices of the Visor, and VDX.

"There will also be no immediate price reductions on the Visor family to match Palm's recent changes."

The Deluxe will be no more in 2002. It's ocmmon Since. All of hs's products are 33 Mhz and everything. The deluxe is just old now.. They will keep a low end model, but drop the 2 mb version, and create a 16 mb version and 8mb ersion instead.

These are all EDUCATED guesses
