I just wanted to remind all the Win95 users out there that there is USB support for release 2 of Win95. I have it myself. I am not sure where this upgrade came from or how to get it, but I know that it is possible. So don't order the serial cable just yet...look into that USB support!

You can't buy it...MS in their infinite wisdom has decided that point changes do not deserve point releases. Very poor strategy IMHO.

You can download the USB drivers here:

see earlier win95 / USB thread at
http://www.visorcentral.com/visor/d...TML/000091.html

I wouldn't bet the farm on getting 95 (w/ drivers added, even w/ port switched on) synching to the Visor. At least, I wouldn't count on getting a lot of help from Handspring, since they do say Win98 is needed, not a tinkered-with 95.

Of course, your milage may vary.

Win 95 USB support is about as worthless as anything else in the WinOS

It detects something is there, but that's about it. I have a USB CD-RW and it found it, but it couldn't load up any of the drivers for some reason in 95. Got 98 and that problem is gone, at least.

Unless Handspring releases some special files for 95b users, I wouldn't expect it to work correctly.

I think you can pretty much expect that Handspring's attitude is "if you've got Win 95, then get a serial cradle." Seriously, with MS preparing to beta release their next consumer version of the windows OS (code named Millenium), which is two versions beyond 95, can you really expect HS to make serious efforts in continuing to support Win95 connections? I don't think so. It's not like a backward-compatibility path is unavailable, it's just going to cost you some cash for not staying up to date with the more recent advancements. Apple has already dropped the serial connection for USB and so will MS eventually. That's just the way it works and I don't blame HS for being forward looking with their technology.

I'd say stop the worry and go buy Windows 98. It's more stable then Windows 95...unless your waiting for Windows 2000? And now that Windows 98 version 2 is out why wait.
Our corporate systems is still on Win 95 Rev C which has limited USB support...very limited and I don't like it compared to my desktop which is on Version 2 of Win98.
