Question

This is probably a dumb question but until I have the cash to order a Visor I have no way of checking this out. If you have a modem (wireless or landline) can you access any webpage or just ones that have the special Palm app you have to download? I noticed that both Amazon.com and SecurityFocus.com have special "apps" you download to check those sites on your Palm. Does the site I want to check have to have this or can I just surf around like normal?

there are web programs available for Palm devices that will allow you to surf the web and view most any web page.

usually things like maps and certain type of buttons don't work.

The apps you are referring to, from amazon.com and other sites, are for a Palm VII device. They are PQA, or PALM QUERY APPS,

Thumbs up

Thanks a lot. Now I'm looking forward to getting my Visor even more than before. Hopefully I can just get my boss to pay for it.

ProxiWeb is a good web browser for Palm OS. I can't quite remember the URL, but do a search on "ProxiWeb" and you should be able to find it.

Proxiweb is at http://www.proxiweb.com

However, I would definitely recommend the AvantGo browser. You sign up at www.avantgo.com, and select channels (i.e. Wired News, US News, NY Times, Fox Sports, etc...) and every time you HotSynch with your desktop, updated versions of those channels are downloaded to your visor for viewing even when not connected to the net. Also, you can use AvantGo just like Proxiweb for viewing any other type of webpage IF you have a modem. I've done this before on a Palm V and was very impressed. just my .02

Wow... you learn a new thing everyday! I also have used AvantGo, but never knew that you could use it for stand-alone web browsing with a modem. In that case, I second Mactin's reccommendation...

I have used Avantgo to and I like it a lot. I've tried to use the Mapquest channel to request a map. It says it will download the map during the next sync. I then sync and it never downloads. Has anyone figured out how to do it?

I don't remember where on VC I learned to do this, but I reposted a brief how-to here: http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/000256.html

To view your results in AvantGo, you need to go to the menu and then Channels, then Forms Manager, touch the word "result". Then you are at your requested page. Dont worry, it took me a while to figure out too.
