Datebook sends Prism into reset loop
Sort of bizarre behavior here... I've had my Prism since spring of 2001, and added a VisorPhone in the fall of that year. Never had any real problems until now.
A few days ago I was hot-syncing with my phone module plugged in and turned on. This had never been a problem before, and I still don't know that it was the cause of the problem here. But after it finished hot-syncing, the Prism came up with a MemoryMgr fatal error. When I reset, it came up fine, then went to the VisorPhone splash screen, and gave me the fatal error again.
I tried several ways of resetting it with the phone in or our, on or off, but never got the phone to work again. The Prism itself still worked fine, so I figured I just needed to do a complete backup and hard reset.
I used to use Sync Buddy with my iMac to do it, but hadn't used it in awhile. In fact I had to reinstall Sync Buddy on the iMac. And then, it wouldn't work. It would try to connect and I'd get another fatal error.
So instead I downloaded Backup Buddy and tried that. Twice it gave me fatal errors while backing up everything, I think when it came across OneTouch Mail databases. I deleted them from the Prism, and when one OT database was left, I tried using Filez to delete it- fatal error again.
For some reason I decided to try Sync Buddy again, and this time the Prism reset itself while connecting. And now it was stuck in a reset loop. Luckily I remembered how to do the "warm" reset, and that got it out. And at that point, Backup Buddy was able to backup everything. I believe it was because I did the warm reset.
Lastly I decided to do one last sync on the built-in conduits, just to be safe, and this time the Prism reset itself as soon as it tried the Datebook conduit. I did another warm reset and discovered that the Prism would go into the reset loop if I even hit the button for the DateBook. I even tried HotSyncing with the Datebook conduit set to "Macintosh overwrites handheld", but still the reset loop.
The ironic thing is, the VisorPhone works again. So for the time being, I'm leaving it alone. I believe everything was backed up by Backup Buddy- I mean, it says it finished, so is there anything I would want to backup that BB doesn't get?
Once I've established that I've got everything backed up properly, I'll hard reset. I would feel better if I could get it to connect with SyncBuddy, 'cause I KNOW that utility could access everything in the Prism's RAM. Anyone have any ideas how I can fix the Datebook problem so Sync Buddy (and HotSync for that matter) can connect to the prism?
Or should I just give up, hard reset, and hope that Backup Buddy did indeed backup my entire RAM contents- PRCs, PDBs, prefs, settings, hacks, etc.
