Palm Desktop 4.0 and Avantgo...Agghhhh

I am using Palm Desktop 4.0 and my Avantgo has suddenly stopped sycing correctly with my Deluxe. It gets to the portion of "Searching for New Webpages"... but it never finishes... as the available pages just keeps rising and the downloaded number never catches up.. I eventually time-out.

I did a search of the forums here and someone had suggested that Palms update for Desktop 4.0 be installed. I installed the update for 4.0 (m500 version because its the only one Palm made). I still have the same problem, except now the new version seems to give Avantgo more time to sync before timing out..which it eventually does 2-3 minutes later. I have also reinstalled the latest version of Avantgo with no success.

I have searched newsgroups and many people seem to have the same problem with Palm Desktop 4.0 and Avantgo...but no answer can be found. Avantgo's support page offers a bare minimum of informaton about anything and nothing regarding this problem. It seems to be a big mystery. I have an e-mail into tech support at Avantgo but it will take a while. Has anyone here had any success fixing this problem?

I also regularly encounter problems with AvantGo. It works fine for a few days, then I get to a situation where it doesn't bother connecting to the AvantGo website. The first time it happened I emailed AvantGo for advice but never got a reply. So eventually I simply reran the original .exe file that I had downloaded from AvantGo. This reinstalls the software when I HotSynch and (usually, but not always) the settings are correct and the thing works perfectly again (for a few days). Very annoying.

Incidentally, I may be showing my ignorance, but I wouldn't have thought that the version of Palm Desktop that you have makes any difference

Most newsgroups seem to indicate that Palm Desktop 4.0 is the culprit. No one has provided a concrete answer to the problem yet. I have Windows XP so I can't use an earlier version of the Palm Desktop. It had been working fine for me. XP isn't the problem.. Most with this problem have Win98.

There are problems with Palm Desktop 3.1 as well

Problems aren't confined to Palm Desktop 4. I have 3.1 and experience the problem I mentioned above (somewhat different from the problem you're getting, probably). What we really need if for someone from Handspring, Palm or AvantGo to be reading these forums and coming up with some advice (Hello, is there anyone out there?)

I had this problem as well with early versions of Palm Desktop 4.0. Make sure you're using the most recent version (from Handspring, not Palm), as well as the most recent version of AvantGo. AG doesn't really publicize their updates, but you can always re-download the software from their site. Since installing the HS-branded Palm Desktop, I haven't had a single AvantGo lockup.

I know, I'm just asking for trouble now...
