I was looking around for a cheap case I could carry around in my backpack if need be and came across "The POD". It looks pretty good to me, it uses velcro but it looks like you really wouldn't need it if you plan to remove it from the case when you want to use it.

Would the Visor fit the Palm III cutout...? Its fairly cheap for only $20.

I just decided I needed the same occasionally-throw-in-the-backpack-yet-be-protected case. I didn't try the POD, but I found this to be a perfect match for my needs:

Cheap ($15) and almost indestructable. The case is manufactured by Otter Box, and several other places sell them (http://www.rei.com ). I got mine from pdalife, and got it in about four or five days (including a weekend). I also was not charged shipping (for reasons I am unsure of).

I highly recommend this case for non-pants-pocket use.
