So why is it that my Visor Delux shows a less than full battery level when I put in my fully charged Nimh Batteris (thank you, visorcentral folks)? Is there a difference in the batteries that means the meter is off? If so, can I fix it?

Its because Nimh batteries dont charge up to the charge that regular batteries have. I think its around .5 volts but it's enough for the visor to think that you have less battery power. You can fix it with a hack but it's not recomended. From what i've heard its not worth worrying about.

hack is battery level hack the version i had on my palm3 was 1.2 . You should be able to find it on palmgear, if not e-mail the author david smith at [email protected]

I just switched to using NiMH batteries as well, and after trying every battery meter hack I could find (as well as the .7 shortcut) I've concluded that there really is no way to get a reliable read on these. So now I'm just keeping an eye on the voltage level (courtesy of Runtime) -- I'll switch my batteries when it hits 2.3v, based on various posts here at VC.

BatteryInfo 1.2 is a great companion to RunTime. It will let you view an accurate and CURRENT voltage reading (rather than having to estimate, looking at the graph). Also, you can set the battery time to Alkaline, NiCd, or Lithium all without needing to install a "hack"... this is a regular program and doesn't require HackMaster. You can also set the warning and critical voltage thresholds (at your own risk.)

The author suggests setting the battery type to NiCd if you're using NiMH batteries due to similar discharge patterns.
