BellSouth seeks to block Forsee move to Sprint

Thought this was interesting. Looks like Cingular's chairman is looking to take the big job at Sprint and Cingular sez "NO!"

ATLANTA, Feb 5 (Reuters) - BellSouth Corp. BLS.N on Wednesday asked a Georgia judge to prohibit its vice chairman, Gary Forsee, from taking the chief executive job with rival Sprint Corp. FON.N , saying it would suffer irreparable competitive harm.

Judge Stephanie Manis of Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta took no action in the case, saying she needed time to review documents. She promised a ruling within a week.

Local phone company BellSouth got a restraining order on Friday preventing Forsee, 52, from accepting the job at Sprint. Both companies provide local, long distance, data and wireless services.

BellSouth's lawyers argued that the noncompete agreement governing Forsee, who was in charge of BellSouth's domestic operations and is chairman of its Cingular Wireless joint venture with SBC Communications Inc. SBC.N , were reasonable and that if such agreements were not allowed, the competitive telephone industry could be immobilized.
