Question Pro or Prism?

If there is already a thread discussing this, my apologies. I'm brand-new to the Forums and couldn't locate one. So here's my issue:

I have a Pro on the way. When I was deciding between the Pro or the Prism, I had to weigh the benefits of more memory versus color. Went with the memory. Now, I'm doubting my decision.

I've just learned about Memplug and how they can 'add' additional memory -- when a Memplug can be used to add 32 / 64 / 128 / even 256 MB of memory to the Visor, what's the big difference between starting with 8 or 16? In short, it looks like I can 'add' more memory, but b&w lasts forever...

Any feedback...preferences...suggestions from actual users? I plan on using my Visor as an organizor mainly...but I just bought a Thinmodem for $10 and also have a cell phone that I can do wireless with -- so I'm do a little email checking and surfing for quick info. when I'm out and about. Price is the same and they'll be no issues with exchanging if that's what I decide to do...Thanks in advance.

Talking If you can live without color...

If you can live without color stick with the Pro. Personally, I chose the Prism for one reason. I didn't like the Pro's backlight. It sorta reverses the image, kinda like a x-ray or film negative which was difficult for me to read. It may not be an issue for you though.

Color is nice but not a "must have". It is useful for showing off family pictures and I like it a little better than b&w when using my GPS maps. The color monitor does draw more power cutting the battery life down considerably but not too dramatic. A full charge will last about 6 hours of continuous use. Realistically, I have to stick the Prism on the charger once every 3-4 days.

The extra memory on the Pro is nice and reduces the dependancy on the memplugs. Both are about the same size, give or take a few millimeters. I would base your choice on how you will use the device and if you like the Pro and don't need color, stick with it.

One curiousity though, where did you get a Thinmodem for $10 and do they have any more?

Thanks for replying...this whole Pro/Prism thing really has me confused. If the Prism really such a battery sucker, that might not be such a good thing. On the other hand, I heard that the Pro really isn't very fast (although some reviewers say that it is).

Regardless, the '$10' Thinmodem was at Staples. There's a way for you to get it even cheaper than I did if you're interested ($6.68 to be exact!). As I'm new to this Forum...and don't know the rules regarding posting 'deals' -- feel free to PM me for details. However, go online to Staples.com and see if it's in stock where you are (it's the regular Thinmodem -- not the Thinmodem Plus). If it is, email me and I'll give help you out with any additional details that you might need. Also, check your local store -- even if you can't use the online coupon, you'll still get it for $20 after rebate.

And that would be my argument for going with the Prism. Coppertop makes a good point about the Prism's color screen eliminating the need for a backlight (and the reverse backlights on all current PalmOS devices are useless; only Handera has the decency to use the old school backlight).

More importantly, black text on a white background on color screens is much more readable than on monochrome screens, which if far less contrast. And for me, as an Eyemodule2 shutterbug, having a color photo album on the Prism is wonderful.
