After reading the posts to the site and a fair amount of research I just ordered a Visor Deluxe. Despite the numerous horror stories
I have read on this site! From reading this site I figure I have a slim chance of receiving the unit without mishap. And after that a slightly better chance of it working for any length of time. But I have high hopes. Please excuse the scepticism but a good number of posts paint a very grim picture.

I reseached Windows CE which led me to the
Palm OS. And because my experiences with 3com are equally as bad as the reports about
Handspring I had to give them a chance.
I have never used PDA but I hope to find it
useful.

To those of you that post the venomous remarks please realize that your tone almost scared me away from my purchase. And really
what percentage of the time do you get good
CS and TS from any company. My experience
leads me to guess no more than 50% at best.

Will post my experiences

I'd say your chances in ALL areas are very good... keep in mind that as good as VisorCentral is, it represents only a small percentage of Visor owners. I'm sure thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of Visors have been delivered in a timely fashion, in proper working order, and are still doing what they were designed and advertised to do. As has been said here before, remember that people don't call the electric company to say they HAVE electricity...

This, of course, is just my humble opinion... my Visor is 2 months old and performs flawlessly. My only problems have been self-induced software related ones.

Thank you MarkEagle for the encouraging remarks. But I'm not surprised coming from you your posts seem to upbeat and helpful.
Do you work for Handspring? Ha Ha You should!

I echo Mark's sentiments. I ordered a Visor on 2/17 and received it in a week. After I ordered the thing, I found the website. I then shipped the first one back and ordered a Visor Deluxe (a/k/a VDX). I received that one in 4 days. Both units are flawless. Both cradles (serial and USB) are in excellent working condition. The only complaint I have is that I can't permanently attach it to my body.

I "third" Mark's comments. No problems at all with my Visor Deluxe (except for one program, which I needed an OS 3.1-compliant version, which works fine!). HotSyncs work perfectly (via USB) too.
I got mine within a few days of ordering. The 8MB Springboard arrived about a week later and works perfectly too.

Hey JP2, If you think the posts are bad now, you should of been around here back in Nov. and Dec.!
I ordered my IVD the beginning of Dec. for a Christmas gift to myself. I was convinced the following would occur.

1) I would not get it until March.
2) When I would finally get it, it would not have a hotsync cradle
3) the hot sync cable would come in April.
4) I would have to send my IVD back because it was not working properly.(I would wait 3 months for a replacement)
5) Handspring would charge my credit card 3 times and send me 2 Visors.

Well none of that happened. I ordered in early Dec. and received my Visor before Christmas. No problems as of yet, and I am a happy Handspring customer. All of my friends who I recommended the visor to had the same experience as I.

From my retail experience, customers will rarely say anything good about a company, if their expectations of service are satisfied. They will be happy of course, because the company held up their side of the contract. When a company fails to keep their side of the contract, and fails to meet the customers exceptions, look out flame city!

So you will see more negative posts then positive. In my business negative e-mails are constructive because it is valuable feedback about my business. A positive letter is worth its weight in gold. Not many happy customers will take the time to let you know they are happy. For every 10-20 negative e-mails, you will get 1 positive e-mail. Just a fact of life.

Boy this turned into a long post. I hope that helps.

JP2:

I remember a time not too long ago when there was a post here every 5 minutes or so with people complaining about their experiences (mostly bad) with handspring. Now you would be lucky if you can find one posted today. That is a sign that Handspring has gotten its act together. That being said. there are still some complaints about getting credits ina timely fashion, I am sure thats somethign that they will address in the not-too-distant future as well.

may be stale for me to say, but I have also had no troubles. I ordered my first right around mid-jan and got it in a couple weeks, sent it back because I got a bad scratch in my screen, got my replacement in 4 days. No complaints at all

Sharpie,

Watch out, this may be the way the BORG started.

Talking

I just ordered a Visor Deluxe in orange with a matching case, USB cable, GoType Pro keyboard with leather case, and a Panache stylus in chrome!!!

I am SO psyched and I want to thank everyone for their comments throughout the site which helped me make my decisions.

It's my first PDA!

I haven't had this much fun since I first played with Linux back in the day...
