Which Wireless router to use with Xircom Springport Wireless Ethernet module?

Any recommendations would be great.

Currently, I was looking into the DI-614+.

But I am not sure if that works well.

Thanks for any info.

Is this site totally dead?

Is there anyone using a Springport Wireless Ethernet with a wireless router? And if so, do you know if the DI-614+ router is any good or compaitble?

I have a Visor Deluxe which I'd like to use with the Springport Wireless Ethernet unit.

Thanks for any info.

This newsgroup is "really" chatty.

Using wireless module with D-Link DI-614+ router

I've been using the xircom 802.11b module with the
D-Link 614+ for several months now. Had a bit of trouble until I put in the latest firmware update for the DI-614+ (had to reboot quite often). 614+ will do 256 encryption but you can only use 128 with the xircom. You can't disable the SID broadcast or it won't work. Xircom won't sniff out networks (unless someone has a programme to do that), you do get to set up for 3 different networks but have to have the SID and encryption, if any. You don't need to enter the channel number.

I have firmware 2.10 installed. It's the latest release and available for download on D-Links website. So don't worry about which version your 614+ comes with.

Netgear MR-314 works for me & my Visor. Can't speak for the D-Link router.

At most, at least there seems to be...

...three routers that works with the Springport Wireless EThernet.

- D-Link (DI-614+)
- Linksys (but requires specific f/w etc.)
- Netgear MR-314

Are there any others? I'm waiting for my DI-614+ to arrive. Hopefully, it arrives in the weekend so I have time to futz with it.

Hey, send me a Xircom wireless springboard and I will tell you how well it works with my NetGear MR 814 (no, not a typo, a different model from the MR-314).

I wanted a Xircom springboard, but it seems the stock of under-$100 units has dried up. They are not even listed on the Intel Website anymore. Amazon has them for around $250!! (almost the old price!)

If you can't get yours to work with your router, but otherwise is in good working order, send it to me!

Hi Lee,

I tried to get the SWE working with my Dlink 614+ but so far no success. I followed all the posts that I could find like setting a static IP, inputting the DNS etc. What Visor do you use and what's your OS? I am using the Visor Deluxe with Palm OS 3.1H3.

I've also upgraded my DI-614+ with the latest f/w -> Current Firmware Version: 2.10
Firmware Date: Fri, 22 Nov 2002

And my SWE f/w is 3.82 and s/w is 1.15 (upgraded)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What visor r u using with SWE?

Hi,

I am having trouble getting the Visor Deluxe to work with the Xircom Wireless EThernet module. Can someone here let me know what Visor you are using with the SWE? Maybe it's the Palm OS on my Visor Deluxe that's the problem.

Thanks for any info.

Visor specs

I'm using a Visor Deluxe, with PalmOS 3.1H3 and NetLib 2.0.0 (from the Software Information in the Ethernet moldule's Status tab. The module has also had the update applied so that it is SW version 1.15 and FW version 3.82. Could you explain your problem a bit more? Are you having trouble accessing the module's software, or in getting the module to talk to the router? Are you using encryption? What are you using for your network settings in Preferences?

My issue is listed below...

Hi All,

Need help on getting this to work. At my wits end.

Details as follows:
-----------------------

Handspring Visor Deluxe (8 MB)
Palm OS is 3.1H3
Batteries are FULLY CHARGED.

Springport Wireless Ethernet
S/W ver
F/W ver

D-Link (DI-614+) Wireless Router is configured as an AP switch (I have a wired router already), and the wired router is connected to the cable modem. The Wireless ROuter is connected to the wired router via a crossover cable. The setup works fine with a laptop equipped with a wireless PCMCIA card (DWL-650+).

I have the following config setup:
=======================

Wired Router (DHCP mode):

IP Address: 192.168.0.1 (default)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

-----------------

DLINK-614+ Wireless Router (DHCP disabled):

Firmware Version: 2.10 , Fri, 22 Nov 2002

IP address: 192.168.0.250
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

SSID broadcast is ENABLED. (Someone had mentioned that disabling this would not work with the SWE).

No Encryption used for now.

SSID name: TestWireless

---------------------

Springport Wireless Ethernet:

SSID name: TestWireless

Chose static IP option.
IP Address: 192.168.0.251
DNS1: 24.123.123.123 (example)
DNS2: 24.123.123.124
GATEWAY IP: 192.168.0.1 (wired router)
Encryption DISABLED (at least until I get this working)
Network Type: Infrastructure
Power Mgmt: Disable, Disable
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

The Network Settings are also (other than those noted above):

Service Name: Xircom Wireless Ethernet

Note since I have OS 3.1H3, I do not have the Connection option. I need to have "00" entered for the phone number. So, I have done this already.

Now, when I click on CONNECT, I get the following response:

Handshaking occurs (liitle diagram of hands shaking!);
Dialing Xircom Wireless Ethernet
Established

But when I check my wired router to display the IP and MACs that are using the router, it does not show.

Also, under the Status option, it hsows that there is no "Network Associated".

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm using a Siemens Speedstream 2623. I was having problems connecting at first - but I downloaded the new firmware from the Siemens site and it works like a charm.
