I recently bought a new stowaway keyboard and I love it...except for one thing. I'm a fairly fast typer, since i sit infront of the computer the whole day ;-) and I find that when I get up to speed, and even when I'm typing not so quickly, the text i type is slow to show up on the screen. The lag can get very annoying, since you have to wait for the visor to play catch up everytime you type a phrase. Anybody found any solutions or experiencing the same problem as me?

Much thanks, Leo

I have had the same issue... but it is not as much of a problem for me, I don't think that fast usually. But, I could see how it might get annoying... I usually type, and watch the words as I am typing, and that helps me think. If it lagged too much, then I would probably have tons of problems with my thoughts becoming disjuncted. They are already enough, and my Visor is supposed to correct the problem, not make it worse .

Maybe running afterburner on the program, or on the keyboard app might help it. Who knows.

I have this problem moderately. I'm a pretty good typist, not quite secretarial quality, but fast enough to experience some lag on Stowaway.

hmm sounds like your processor isn't keeping up. Do you have a deluxe, a Platinum or a Prism?

IF you have a Deluxe, there are certain clock speeds that you can overclock to, yet still be able to hot sync. You;l have to find those out my trial and error. If you have Afterburner, they have a system that get's rid of the problem..

I find on my stowaway that when it starts to lag (and I'm not editing in the middle of a document) that if I hold down the delete key for a second it speeds back up. I guess that if there's a space or something after the cursor position it slows everything down. Of course, that doesn't help at all of you're editing in the middle of text...

In my experience the amount of lagging depends on the application. I experienced considerable lagging when I used Memo Pad as my primary 'word processor', but after I switched to Wordsmith the problem disappeared. The letters on the screen now keep pace nicely with my keystrokes.

Although I don't know quite what to make of this, I also experienced the lag on my Visor Deluxe. However, I have never lagged on my Prism. Now that I'm running FastCPU and Quickbits, things just fly.

If you're on a Visor Deluxe, Quickbits might really help. It speeds up text draw operations, which might help. Also, an overclocker couldn't hurt...

Not really worth $0.02 - oh well.

Solution!!

For those that are experiencing this, go to thinkoutside.com and download the latest driver for the Visor. It solved my problems and changed my life (hehe)

Much Thanks, Leo

Wordsmith as I belive, has built in Stowaway drivers, so that might make it faster.

Actually, it has built-in support for the Stowaway keyboard meaning it takes advantage of the driver functions.

There is some issue with the Stowaway buffer being only 16 characters. Perhaps this has something to do with sluggish response as well.

From the Stowaway README.TXT file:

quote:

5.3 Characters stop repeating after 16 characters
The Stowaway software limits the maximum character repeat to 16 characters. The limit was set to prevent the characters from repeating when the Visor is removed from the keyboard while a character is held down.

5.6 Sometimes there is a delay when typing a character
Some users have reported delays when using the keyboard. Most often this is caused by a conflict with other installed hacks and the driver. If you have HackMaster installed, try removing some of the hacks. You should see an improvement in the performance of the driver.

actually i owned a go type before, for my ancient palm III, and I liked it alot, but I like the stowaway even better because of its form factor. You just have to make some trade offs...but the Stowaway can be used on your lap, you'd be surprised how good it works..maybe you can try one out at staples..

I have a GoType, and I love it. I actually bought it recently, after I was so happy with Wordsmith. I gave it its first real "test" this past week taking notes at a seminar. It was great. Until then, I just practiced at times while in bed, while watching TV (I hate JUST watching TV), and the fact that I didn't need a hard surface was great. I really impressed a lot of people at the seminar, and maybe even *sold* a few GoTypes and Visors. :-)

I know the size is an issue for some people, but I have relatively small hands, so it's not a problem for me. Also, I have never noticed any kind of typing lag with GoType, and I can hammer out 50+ words a minute.

I'm a happy consumer.
