How about a Clie-phone?
By: scrinch @ 11:04 PM

?Here's a new Sony Clie PDA released in Japan and Europe. Replace the bluetooth radio with a CDMA (or GSM/GPRS) radio and voila, a phone! I checked the dimensions and they are identical (except thinner) to my Treo 300. It has 320 x 320 resolution with 65K colors, MP3, external storage, OS5/ARM, video software with sufficient processor, a qwerty keyboard, metal case, a rocker... Isn't this what we've been asking for in the new Treo? All for US $340.

Not a bad idea, you've got to add a speaker that work with the mic as a phone though...
How about battery usage.. Does GSM use more or less than BT?

I'd imagine it would eat through quite a bit of battery, my Nokia transmits at half a watt. This is because the signal must reach much farther than 30 ft., more like miles.

battery

The Treo uses a 1100 mAh battery, the Samsung an 830 mAh battery, and the Kyocera 7135 a 1300 mAh battery. I imagine 1200-1400 mAh is what a Clie would require. I'm sure a CDMA or GSM radio would use more power than a BT radio, but these other smartphones demonstrate that battery life wouldn't be an insurmountable problem.

yes, but power=size, so the battery would probably have to be a bit bigger and I would bet that the GSM radio would be a lot bigger than a BT radio. It also seems like Sony has a contract with Symbian for phone OS, but if they bought out PalmSource like they have been talking about I bet that would change quick.
