Exclamation

I had no trouble using the Xircom Springport 56k Modem with my Visor Deluxe. It worked perfectly. However, after getting a Prism it gives me fatal errors constantly. I just received the following from Xircom Customer Support :

"Thank you for your e-mail to Xircom. Yes you are correct the problem is because of the newer os on your new device. We are in the process of updating the files for Springport for use in the Palm OS 3.5. Keep checking our website for these driver files."

That should clear up any questions about it working with the Prism/Platinum. Hopefully it will work as good or better than it did with the Deluxe when the new drivers come out.

Smile

Well, that certainly is good news about updated drivers. I wondered if my Platinum's 3.5 OS was an issue in the finicky operation of the SpringPort; now it appears that it is. And you saved me another 45 minutes on hold waiting for Xircom's tech support people to surface.

I still may try a ThinModem/Handspring modem, however.

Lightbulb The Call

I was on hold for 40 minutes and got this info:

w/Visor Deluxe:
Battery (on modem) Drains when not in Visor
So take pack off when not in use

Also copy multimail and avantgo to visor, then you can copy onto Visor, that way
you can write mail offline, check header before you download email, get rechargeable batteries <- these are lame ideas

Direct Quote from Tech. Support -> "I'm such an idiot"

Have not heard of any problems with platinium, but they said it will not work with the prisim? ( I wouldn't know I don't have one)

OS3.5 -> Issue with mobile link, you need to copy mobile link directly to the visor.... ?

my 2 cents
Dan

Battery Drains ???

I haven't noticed the battery drain but if they said that then I might be returning mine after doing some tests. That is just unacceptable. I got the Xircom modem because it had its own batteries vs. the thinmodem which uses the Visors power source. I have noticed the charger light blinking on my Prism when the Springport is plugged in...which seems to act like it is charging my Prism. That has good points and some bad points but doesn't seem like it should work that way.

As for the apps on the modem, I moved everything except for the springport and filemover apps to my Prism. I'll probably be upgrading Multimail since it works really well.
