Backup module- dead?

My backup module doesn't work. I put it into the springboard slot and the visor turns on, take it out, and the visor turns on, but its icon won't show up in the applications screen. When I perform a reset (soft), the backup program pops up, and I click on "backup" and it starts to backup, then stops after fifteen seconds. The icon is not anywhere. My question is: what the-?

Well, it doesn't work again. Same problem. I guess if I did the same thing again it would show up again, but obviously something's wrong. . .
