But it cuts into a nice, dry wit. I like smilies, but sometimes going "wink wink, hey hey, ain't I funny?" isn't what you want.

I think this is a big problem with posts and email... I should write a paper...

Don't get me wrong, I love dry humour (yes with a 'U' )
but sometimes it is not allways clear for everybody to understand it was ment with tongue in cheek....

Just use your judgement, must of you are resposible enough to do so...
If you think it might upset people, use a smilly, it will only cost you two more keystrokes and can prevend a lot of issue's....

I got it, and thought it was hilarious! (but then I love Monte Python too...)

When I saw that there were 12 posts, my first thought was "Uh oh, here it comes...I'll never hear the end of it." Sorry that things got a little misunderstood. It just goes to show that we need to be careful communicating in a digital world, no one can see the wicked gleam in your eye...
