Talking

Does any one know of a way to extact the data from the databases of the built-in apps (datebook, address, notepad & todo) on the Visor. I have backed up the databases using backup buddy. But I do not know the format.

I have lost my desktop data and partial syncing capabilites (everything syncs except the built in apps data, see earlier post).

Any help would be appreciated.

Simple solution to try first: set your conduits to have the Visor overwrite the desktop. Try anothe sync.

If that doesn't work, it is time for a more drastic solution (this assumes that you are using the Palm Desktop software). Confirm your install account name. Copy your backup directory to a safe location. Uninstall your desktop software. Reboot. Reinstall your desktop software. Set the first sync to have the Palm overwrite your desktop data.

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried reinstalling the desktop software. Numerous times with the handheld's user name and with a temporary user name. With the temporary user name I do a hotsync, the desktop recognizes that it is a unknown handheld and asks to create a new user. I answer yes. Then the hotsync continues but no data is transfered to the desktop. The desktop has always allowed me to install new apps and backs up data files (other than the built in apps). I do not know what happened to create this problem.

The only thing I am trying to do at this point is not lose the data on the handheld. My thinking is that if I can extract the data I will be able to import it back in after I do a hard reset.

Download BackupBuddy and give it a try. Set it to backup the ROM based programs' databases. At least that way if you have to do a hard reset you won't lose all of your data. If it does what you need, then pay for it. I've been extremely happy that I did.
