We were having a discussion about this at the VisorCentral office today, so we figured we would poll you guys to get the answer to our argument.

Whoa!!! All out of my price range!

My personal favorite, though... Porsche, there is no substitute.

Aston martin, have you seen teh DB VII? Not to mention the DB V's illustrious association with 007.

...though had you posted Audi (as you should have), I may have voted for it.

Mistake

Well, I seemed to have made a mistake in naming this thread. The word 'Best' is used incorrectly and is not the real question to the poll.

If you read the question to the poll it asks, 'which is the most prestigious car brand?'

Meaning, which car brand is the most highly regarded overall...

Really, BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus shouldnt be in there, they sort of dont compare to Ferrari for example.

Hope this helps...

I voted for Rolls Royce (nothing more prestigious on the list.) But I think Bentley perhaps should have been included on your poll. I think they're more prestigious than Rolls Royces.

I'm glad you clarified "best". Best in terms of quality and value could go to a much more inexpensive company (Subaru and Toyota come to mind).

I've always heard that if you drive it yourself, you get a Bentley. If you'll have a driver, you get a Rolls. By that measure, Rolls wins for "presteige".

You do know they're made by the same company, right?

Yeah, I know they're made by the same company (though Saturn and Cadillac are both GM and Dodge and Mercedes are both Daimler-Chrysler). I just think that Rolls Royce is a little bit of a better known company...more exposure maybe, and Bentley has more exclusivity, but that might just be me.

Salivate...drool...slurp...salivate...mmmmmm...Aston Martin...mmmmm!

I have been saving my hundred dollar bills for years, another century of saving and I might be able to buy a used one with 500,000 miles on it.

To me, without a doubt the Aston Martins are the most desireable car on that list. I have seen them at the Detroit Auto Show twice, they have them on a platform, surrounded by a moat and 4' high glass wall. Then there are the guards walking around inside the exhibit.

"Whoa buddy, you got within 15' of the car, back it up that's close enough!" Whew, I feel faint!

Aston, Aston!

Arrow Rolls Royce

Rolls Royce is definitely the most prestigious on the list. Doesn't the Queen of England gets driven around in a Rolls Royce? I wonder what the President of the U.S get driven around in? Maybe Armoured Vehicle One.

For prestigious- You forgot Maclaren. That was an exclusive car. Mucho dinero.

Best would have to go to Nissan. (Syrmna, Tenn. plant rated "most efficient" auto plant in North America 7 years in a row. VQ V-6 voted "Best six cylinder engine available at any cost, also for last 7 years. 2002 Altima = Car of the Year. Maxima, best selling car in class for last 17 years.) I could go on, but I would bore you quickly (if I haven't already).

Quick disclosure statement, I not only own 3 Nissans, I also sell them so I may be a tad biased. (I also drive 46 miles, one way, to work so that I can sell them)

Tip for the day- Monkey urine is a decent panther deterrent, but will not engender you to your in-laws.

Not quite true any more. If I remeber correctly, Rolls sold off their car manufacturing busines a year or so ago. BMW bought it for a period of two or three years (IIRC) at which point they keep the Bentley business and VW gets the rights to the name Rolls Royce.

I cannot believe BMW is winning this poll...
Don't get me wrong, they are good, quality cars, but nowhere near the prestige factor of a porsche, ferari, lambourgini, rolls, austin martin etc..

Must be an american thing... in europe every tom dick and harry drives a BMW or mercedes...

I have 2 BMW's... one is motorcycle, the other is a 15 year old 325i. They aren't fancy, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. Sometimes 'expesive' or 'exotic' does not mean 'better'.

But I suppose as far as prestige goes... I'd rather have a Vector.

True, True... BUT, BMW AG packages them much differently than they do over here in the States. Over in Germany, I've seen many BMW's that were strippers (comparitively speaking) with cloth interiors, crank windows, hub caps, and small displacement/low hp engines. BMWUSA has positioned themselves in the US market to be one of the premier brands.

My last 3 vehicles have been beamers, including one very similar to ThirdMan's 325i (my first was a 1987 325is - loved that car!!). Current is a '99 323i, and have #4 on order '02 330i.

Although Audi, Lexus, Merc... et al are getting closer to emulating the 3 series, it's still the sport sedan that all others are judged against.

That being said... I'd rather have a Porsche C4S, but with kids (and lack of funding), C'est impossible...

Larry, the smaller engines in the european models do not mean lower power...
The fuel in europe is heaps better than in the US and the engines are better tuned...

I agree the BMW's in europe are lower end models than the ones in the US...
